Loch Ness Backpackers Lodge
The Loch Ness region is spectacular - lovers of the great outdoors will have a field day with us in Drumnadrochit. There are dozens of great places to go and explore on foot from our doorstep.
The hostel is a lovely relaxed place to be, and although we all work hard we really enjoy spending time together and with our guests. The more fun we have, the more fun they have!
We (Nikki and Patrick) took over the hostel in August 2016. Patrick has worked in hostels for years and is loving finally owning his own. We have two young kids, Joni and Finn, who are always around somewhere causing havoc and distracting us all, volunteers included! We also have a dog who is equally distracting but much loved by volunteers and guests.
The volunteers we've had so far have been the life blood of the hostel, setting the tone and keeping things running smoothly. We encourage all volunteers to really enjoy their time with us by going off and exploring the Highlands, and we do what we can to enable that. Back at the hostel, we organise regular incentive schemes and fun parties to keep the team motivated and involved.

My time at the hostel was an amazing adventure. I met so many wonderful people and got to explore a lot of beautiful places (although I have to admit, getting around without a car can be a bit difficult). The work itself was simple, and the atmosphere was always relaxed, friendly, and felt like a little family. Patrick and Nikki really care about making sure everyone feels welcome and comfortable. I will definitely never forget my time in the Scottish Highlands! 💚

I loved my stay in the highlands at the hostel! It was my first volunteer experience. Drum is a very small village so I would take that into consideration of you are thinking about going to the highlands, but people are very very nice, you can get to a lot of places with the bus and the landscapes are spectacular!. The work in the hostel was fair in exchange for what you get, and Nikki and Patrick were very welcoming, approachable and very easy to reach ! Would 100% recommend!

I had an amazing time here !! I felt right at home in the hostel. We had a great team and I loved spending my evenings with the other volunteers. The amount of work is very reasonable. We had plenty of time to explore the Highlands and I've completely fallen in love with the area. ((considering moving fr)) It's very easy to hitchhike everywhere around. The locals are very kind and welcoming. Don't be put off by the requirement for long-term availability; you'll want to extend anyway ;) Thank you again for everything !! I can't wait to come back. <3 See you very very soon ! :)

This was my first volunteering experience and it was completely mind blowing! Definitely beginner friendly, Patrick and Nikki were awesome, same as other volunteers with me. I had such a fun time there, practising communication skills, a lot of free time to explore and meet locals AND other travellers staying in the hostel. I can't describe how much I would recommend this volunteering job. Would come back anytime! <3 thank you so much xo

It was my first time volunteering and was totally amazing, Patrick and Nikki were so welcoming from day one and I always felt included, the work was clear and pretty easy to do, not too hard or too much. Patrick and Nikki were always checking in and helping when needed and the other volunteers were great. I enjoyed the many walking trails you can take from the hostel and the general calmness of the town, overall a great experience that I 100% recommend
