Lyng house

We are looking for horse riders to work with our horses. You will be doing all your riding on a beautiful beach in Ireland. We live in Rural Ireland by a small village by the sea in Wexford called Rosslare Strand.

We live in the beautiful sunny south east in Rosslare Strand, Co. Wexford Ireland, (1 mile from the beach). You would live in a self catering apartment with other Workawayers from various countries. It is a shared bedroom, mod cons; Wifi, big smart tv, Netflix and loads of other channels, dishwasher and washing machine, full kitchen etc. The apartment sleeps 4.
The apartment is on our 3 acre property where Tom , myself and the horses reside. You will be asked to do various tasks for 25 hours a week, we are very flexible, just let us know what days you prefer off. Horse workers may be asked to do Gardening/cleaning/maintenance type work. Depends on how much horse work is on that week. Expect up to approx. 8 hours/ week in general maintenance type work. However, there are often many weeks that horses will be full on.
We live by the train, buses and we provide you with bikes to cycle around the village and to the beach. We have a cold pool and outdoor sauna that you will have full access to use them. We provide your food and utensils, you will have plenty of free time to explore this beautiful Island. Contact us if you think you may be interested. We have lots of cats and dogs, so a general love of animals is nice to have as well :-)

Rosslare Strand is the 'sunny southeast' , a very popular destination for tourists. Particularly in the summer time and is also lovely in the autumn. It is very beautiful. If you are a city slicker, it is a great contrast, if you are a country bumpkin, then you will feel right at home whilst learning English.

We are committed to ensuring the well-being and happiness of our horses and those who work with them. Our horses are kept in great condition from paddocks to stables and keeping them well cared for is a top priority. We are laid back and realise that you are engaging with us for an experience and a cultural exchange and believe we can offer both to you.

Thank you Tom & Theresa! The farm is beautiful. Interacting with racehorses and learning your routine was a truly fascinating experience. As constructive feedback: communication needs care, when we arrived they forgot our arrival date, so we waited 3h in the cold with all our luggage. Food was tricky; groceries ran out by Wed (mostly noodles left) and basic requests felt discouraged. For DIY, 5h are respected, but track them yourself. For horses tasks, my wife and the girls often worked over 5h with no tracked days off. The rushed routine also limited cultural exchange with the hosts.

Tom and Theresa are kind and friendly, although we had little daily contact. I cared for the horses and helped with maintenance. The work was more physically demanding than expected, and sudden changes in tasks and schedules made it hard to plan; sometimes extra work was added after our shift. The accommodation was good, and the bikes provided were in good condition. Given the workload, food could have been better: on some days we mainly had instant noodles, with little protein or basic groceries. Despite these challenges, I loved being with the horses and meeting the other volunteers.

I was with Theresa and Tom and the horses for a month. It was my first trip alone and I felt so comfortable every day of my stay. I met a lot of people from all over the world. The horses are special but really stunning.
My favorite horse is Victor ;)
The most beautiful was the riding on the beach. It was so great I couldn't stop smiling.
Theresa, Tom and Alex are so nice and cute and if you have a problem you can talk with them. I can really recommend it especially as your first trip you feel very welcome there
I loved to be there and I will come back.

Negative points: the host has no organization at all with the work; many times he asked to do many things at once and nothing could be finished properly, which made it take longer than necessary. On the third day of volunteering, the host asked me to water the plants in the afternoon. I watered them, and yet he asked to water again and was very rude, saying “you did a market job, it's all a market, you didn't water anything here, you're not working.” Positive points: we made many volunteer friends.

Theresa replied

We are shocked, we had no idea he was unhappy, this came out of no where and we think it has something to do with a business proposition that we declined. He offered to take pictures for 600 euro, I thought it was ridiculous as he has no portfolio or camera, just a phone. If it wasn't the reason, he should win an Oscar, he said nothing, smiled and when asked if all was ok, replied with a smile and high fives. He has little to no English. It was impossible for us to know how he was feeling

I had a fantastic time volunteering here. The hosts are warm, welcoming and generous.
The hosts are great at matching tasks to your strengths, whether that means heavy physical labor or detail-oriented, precise projects.
While you will be around the horses, you won't be riding them. These are high-energy racehorses that require experienced professional riders.
Volunteers stay together in separate cabins rather than with the hosts in the main house. There can be quite a few volunteers at once and you are responsible for keeping your cabin clean and cooking your own meals.
