Lynster House

Firstly, I have a beautiful home so can offer a real "home from home" experience and I am very much a people person. I have a very positive outlook on life and living, and in my younger years, travelled the world. So I know what's a bonus and what can be difficult and I would be so happy to engage with young and maybe Not So Young people as they travel the globe
I offer excellent food, (including vegetarian, though not vegan) the opportunity to meet other people who are paying guests, many of them also from overseas.. and everyone gains a true international experience.
The bonus about Monaghan is that it is a true hidden gem in Ireland, not quite on the tourist but it has some fantastic things to do and places to see that won't break the bank!!

I am mostly a one woman show but as it gets a bit busier in the summer time I would appreciate the help with the rooms and gardening. Hours and workdays are fairly flexible but it would be overall 25hrs a week. I would be very happy to take my volunteer around visiting friends and family and introduce them to the local community. We are a super friendly part of Ireland and make visitors welcome always. Also I'm heavily involved in the music and culture scene locally so happy to include my volunteer(s) in music gigs, theatre and concerts. Typical days off I always suggest Dublin, Belfast, or Galway and past volunteers normally do this as two days /one overnight stay and really enjoy.

I had a mixed experience here. The host is intelligent, hardworking and was kind to me personally. The workload was reasonable and the house is beautiful. However, the environment felt restrictive with strict rules, high expectations and uncomfortable accommodation. What affected me most was how conflict was handled. I witnessed an accidental vacuum damage escalate into a tense confrontation involving slamming doors and demands for replacement. I ultimately left early as I was feeling like walking on eggshells. I recommend clarifying expectations and house rules beforehand.

My experience was positive thanks to the other volunteers and local people, but unfortunately very difficult because of the host and I had to leave earlier. Work is not difficult but she asked for "perfection". I completed the required hours and tasks, helping beyond my schedule. However, communication was often contradictory, and I was blamed for misunderstandings and things that were wrong that I had not done. Very unfair. I felt increasingly tense and was treated disrespectfully, with rude interruptions and intimidating behaviours, e.g. slamming doors during conversations. Unacceptable.

My stay at the guest house was wonderful! It's a beautiful property with all the comforts you may need. You should be prepared to work hard, but it's worth it for the cultural immersion and time off to explore Derry, Belfast, or Dublin. Liz is so full of energy and has unmatched knowledge of Monaghan and Irish history. Thank you Liz and the guest house!

Elizabeth made this feel like a home away from home. Her hospitality was top notch and made me feel very at home. Her cooking is amazing and she served me a lot of different varieties of food which was fantastic.I also learnt a lot of skills from Elizabeth in regards to housekeeping and gardening. She was a fantastic host and would highly recommend her if you to experience what Ireland is like as she has a thorough knowledge of her local town and all of Ireland.

I take positive things from the experience. From the beginning, Elizabeth was very kind and welcoming, she introduced me to local people and shared a lot about Irish culture. She is always very active and constantly on the go, so if you don't match her pace it can feel a bit intense at times. The tasks were quite varied, from gardening and mowing the lawn to housekeeping and helping with social media, which kept things dynamic. Thank you for everything!
