Monte do Roque

Well established farm (some parts under renovation) surrounded by nature (montado) with spectacular views at reasonable distance to bigger towns.

Volunteers become part of the family, with enough personal space if need be. We are flexible in the work or projects the volunteer likes to participate in. We particularly value any skills that come in handy and that we may be lacking ourselves. Volunteers can also participate in ongoing activities.

My stay at the farm De the farm was a very cool experience. Veronique and Tom have great knowledge on farming and working with animals, and I learned a lot working alongside them. I had lots of time to rest after working each day and there were plenty of lovely walks around their place, as well as Evoramonte quite nearby which has some restaurants and cafes. They also provided me with lots of nutritious food and we would eat meals together. I enjoyed my time here. Veronique and Tom are good people.

MdR is a great place to learn. There is a lot of work to do, and you'll be able to pick depending on your interests. Felt very comfortable and taken care of by hosts Veronique and Tom, a very kind and patient couple with inspiring lives. Tom's cooking is exquisite!, and Vero gives the best advice. Not normatively touristic- the closest city is Evora, which you won't be able to visit on weekends, but you can walk to Evoramonte - a lot of fun condensed into a roughly thirty-minute walk - and enjoy other activities in nature, just ask! Will miss you both! Thank you very much for everything.

We had a great time on the farm learning about the care and maintenance of animals and farm. Good balance of work and time off to explore the hiking trails and see the village. Tom made delicious and creative meals every night and Veronique and Tom were generous with driving us to different towns to sight see or be dropped off at the bus station!

A beautiful farm, the work was fun, and the living space was very comfortable. Veronique can be difficult to work with, instructions were often unclear and communication could be significantly improved.

Tom & Veronique replied

Communication is a 2-way street. When sth is unclear to you, there is a solution: ask. Don’t just sit back, wait and just mention it here. We regret you didn't like it here (3*) & that these are the only things you shared. Not our flexibility to take you in last minute when another host let you down, not that we accepted that you then arrived 5 days late, with an extra 3rd friend. Not the extra breakfast & snacks we gave (not in the offer), all the things we taught you, the driving around, etc.

We regret your stay did not work out as expected. We advise you to always study the offered positions well before applying and to choose sites that cater to your needs with less teamwork and less work with women involved. We regret the mistake in your choice of place results in a one star review. We still shared our house and our best food with little work in return. We do always try our best to make WPers feel at home and enjoy the experience. We wish you all the best with your future travels!
