Nature Reserve La Fatarella

We put nature and animals 1st and everything here is built around a desire to improve the natural environment and do as little harm as possible. That means we don't use river water or other irrigation water because we live with what we collect. We don't use more electricity than necessary and only have solar. We try and be sustainable in every way and limit our negative impact on the world, locally and globally. We offer a unique way of life, very different from the crazy consumer focussed world around us all.

We value visitors input into the way of life we are building and experiencing. We love to help people who are on life's great journey, who want to learn, work and have fun off grid!

David and Monica, along with their 4 dogs, 15 cats and 2 goats, have accepted us from the day one. I felt like we were part of the family, all living and working together. The sustainability aspect of the project has an eye -opener on how to survive on that arid land and be mindful of the resources, especially water. The accommodation was completely adequate to put one's head down at the end of a day of work on the land, and David went out of his way to help us with anything we needed.
The hike we did with the animals was an out-of-body experience, spiritual and so good! I loved every minute!

If you love animals and learning about the environment and sustainability, this is for you! There was less cultural immersion than I expected, but the knowledge we gained about the local ecology made up for it.

David is from the UK, started the farm ~8 years ago, and is very knowledgeable. He established from the beginning that the work is physically difficult and task-based rather than time-based. Sometimes expectations were unclear, but he encourages you to ask questions and express your needs.

Just an amazing experience. My girlfriend and I stayed for 3 weeks and at the end, we felt like a part of the family. Mickael and Marion were so welcoming and truly gave us an immersive experience. They are so knowledgeable and very well traveled and are happy to share their wisdom with you. Their lovely kids are so sweet and made us feel like a part of the household. Absolutely loved staying with this wonderful family (and Suki their adorable dog ;)
