Sahara desert nights

A traveler should choose to volunteer at our place because it offers an authentic experience of life in the southeast of Morocco. Volunteers live with a local family in Tagounite and the kasbahs around Oulad Ali, sharing daily life, traditions, and meals.

The work is meaningful and simple: helping with animals, gardening, making traditional mud-bricks, and supporting eco-friendly activities. It’s not just volunteering, but a cultural exchange where travelers learn local skills, connect with nature, and experience the desert, oases, dunes, and mountains.

Volunteers are welcomed like family, in a peaceful place far from mass tourism, where they can slow down, learn, and contribute positively to the community.

I am from Tagounite in the southeast of Morocco. This volunteering project is a family-based initiative. I work together with my brother, relatives, and close friends, mainly in our house located near the kasbahs outside Oulad Ali. We take care of animals, gardening, and traditional work, and we are happy to share our daily life with volunteers.

Volunteers are treated like part of the family, not like workers. We believe in respect, kindness, and cultural exchange. We make sure volunteers feel safe, welcome, and comfortable during their stay. We work together, share meals, talk, laugh, and learn from each other. We respect personal time and limits, and we always try to create a warm, honest, and friendly atmosphere.

Our goal is for volunteers to feel at home, experience real local life, and leave with good memories and meaningful connections.
Please note that during the summer months, the weather is very hot, and local schools are closed for vacation. Because of this, there is usually less work to do, and the atmosphere is much more relaxed. Volunteers who visit in summer should expect a quieter experience, with plenty of free time to explore the desert, learn about the local culture, and enjoy the surroundings.

If you are looking for a calm and authentic experience rather than a busy work schedule, summer can be a wonderful time to visit.

Hamza is a very friendly and welcoming person; he showed us what local life in his town is like. However, it is necessary that the description of the volunteer program he offers be updated... The two other female volunteers present and I had to ask to be given something to do, since at the moment there is no formal volunteer program. Also, Hamza doesn't have a car, only a motorcycle (which, by the way, didn't work when I went), so it will be difficult to go to the desert if there is more than one volunteer. I do not recommend it for people who are looking for a formal volunteer program.

Thank you for sharing your experience and for your kind words about your stay.

As mentioned in my profile, during the summer there is no school and activities are much more relaxed due to the heat. The volunteer experience at this time of year is focused more on cultural exchange, local life, and helping with whatever tasks are available rather than a structured project with fixed daily activities.
Wish you all the best Isabel :))

I had lovely stay at Hamza's. He is very welcoming and showed me around in the beautifull village. His garden is really relaxed and you will wake up with the best bird alarm you can imagine. Hamza is a good cook as well and has amazing and very funny friends. In terms of volunteering, you can expect lots of free time and chilling mostly! Because I was looking for some more work to do, Hamza let me stay at some of his friends which was a very lovely experience. I am looking forward to come back soon!

I had a really beautiful time staying at Hamza's place in Tagounite. Hamza was a wonderfull host, with a generous heart. I was blessed with the opportunity to join his daily life and get a taste of the authentic village life of Tagounite. Tagounite is a beautiful small village with a lot of character and charm. Hamza was really providing and I felt deeply cared for. And at the same time he gives you a lot of freedom to wander on yourself. He was so kind to organize a trekking in the dessert for some days for me. This was one of the most magical experiences I've had and something I will cherish

We only spent a few days in Tagounite, but I felt very welcome. Hamza is a very kind and he made sure we felt comfortable in his home. It's a house in the city, which makes it easy to explore the small area. He showed us a bit around the city and introduced us to Moroccan culture, which we really appreciated. He cooked the food and it was very good. The work was light, and there was a lot of free time to explore and relax. If you are looking for a very relaxed stay and want to experience small-town life and live like a local in Tagounite , this is definitely a good place for you
