The hosts cook the most wonderful meals 3 times a day and you eat with the kids sometimes too, like a big family. The accommodation is also comforting private room and bathroom. The host parents speak a little English, their children Richard and Emma, speak fluently and I spent many nights playing with them. The children you work with are so funny and kind. However something I didn't know before i started, children are disciplined physically. I saw dragging by the arm or ear, pinching of the body and ear, flicking, slapping on the head or butt, faking a hit. This was distressing to see.

We work with children using a local, indigenous approach. If you have any questions or feel uncomfortable with any of our methods, please discuss them with us directly on the very first day. Your assessment comes across as somewhat subjective and exaggerated; attempting to impose American cultural norms and styles onto our local culture is not appropriate.
This incident is truly unfortunate, but if you respond in a polite and thorough manner, other thoughtful volunteers reading your reply will a

I enjoyed my time here with the children. I worked between 6-7 hours a day split into 2 parts with break in-between, including Saturdays. I was the only volunteer for most of my time which was challenging at times with all the kids. They keep you well fed with the food they prepare for the children and were kind to include me in some family activities. I think I would have enjoyed it more if there was another volunteer to have some company in the afternoons but I did have some nice down time.

I returned to Tahn house after a wonderful stay last year. It was every bit as great, if not better than last year. I encourage every young teacher of English as a foreign language to da volunteer stint at Than House. Their system is unique with unbelievable results. There were not one but 2 Vietnamese kids of just 5 years old who can read English at the primary 2 level. All kids were good to excellent and most could read Comprehensive English reading texts 1 or 2 levels above their age. The accomodation is great (private room /shower) the food is good. Don't miss this great opportunity.

I had an extremely positive first volunteering here, heading into the experience i was a little nervous however from the start, their hospitality, kindness and children made me comfortable. It was clear they had a routine with foreigners and were thoroughly experienced. I was given a massive bedroom and private bathroom. They told me on the first night what was expected of me and when mealtimes and other small details would be so i was well informed and supported throughout my stay. The teaching aspect is extremely simple, basic vocabulary, some games and you do group work throughout the day
