Tierra Craft
Located in the countryside of Hida, Japan, this is a hands-on opportunity to experience rural life while learning practical skills and contributing to real projects.
Volunteers can take part in a variety of activities, including house renovation, gardening, farming, painting, woodworking, organizing workshops, and content creation. Depending on the season, tasks may include caring for rice paddies, growing vegetables, maintaining outdoor spaces, and helping improve a traditional Japanese house.
This is not a hostel or a tourism-focused experience. It is a place for people who enjoy learning by doing, working with their hands, and experiencing everyday life in the Japanese countryside. In return, volunteers gain practical skills, cultural exchange, and the chance to be part of a small international community surrounded by nature.
The host is a carpenter and designer based in Hida, with experience in traditional woodworking, renovation, and rural living. The project is centered around creating a sustainable and meaningful lifestyle while restoring a traditional Japanese home.
Volunteers are treated as part of the community rather than as workers. Respect, communication, and mutual support are important values here. Everyone contributes to daily life, including helping with cooking, cleaning, and sharing responsibilities around the house.
Meals are usually prepared by the host and family, but volunteers are encouraged to help with meal preparation, cooking, and cleanup as part of community life. Basic groceries and ingredients are provided.
The environment is informal, friendly, and collaborative, with opportunities to learn new skills, exchange cultures, and build lasting friendships.
