The Experience

My name is Alejandro, a psychologist and acupuncturist. We are located in a privileged natural setting with close access to the beach. It is a perfect place for those who seek to connect with nature and the sea in a conscious way. From the hostel you can enjoy the beach, hiking, rest, and also participate in local tours and activities. We are looking for volunteers to help with the reconstruction and getting the hostel up and running.

Good experience, it's very nice to have a private room with lake views! I cleaned the house from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM, or did gardening tasks in the greenhouse. Alejandro and Zaira, the couple, are very welcoming; their two kids are as well, and they are full of energy and run around everywhere! Chonchi is a bit 'isolated' compared with other tourist spots in Chiloé (Achao, Tenaún, Quemchi). I think if I did it again, I would arrange to work more hours in one day and have 3 days off, to better visit the surroundings. Thank you very much, Alejandro and Zaira!

The place is beautiful; being surrounded by nature and the sea made the experience very special. Alejandro was kind and made us feel comfortable.
We enjoyed helping with the construction of the vegetable garden, the trail, and the hostel. The meals met what had been agreed, although at times there was a lack of variety considering the physical effort of the tasks.
Keep in mind that if you go in winter there is no heating in the room; Alejandro also provides firewood for the kitchen/dining area.
As this is his first volunteering, I think those points should be taken into account. I believe he has a project with potential and I wish him all the best!

The place is beautiful, surrounded by nature, and Alejandro was always kind, attentive, and willing to help. We enjoyed contributing to his project and value his hospitality. However, our experience was greatly affected by living with the children, as for much of the stay our privacy, our rest spaces, and even our physical safety were violated. We hope this aspect can improve so that future volunteers have a better experience.

Alejandro replied

"I don't think it's right to raise this now, when they should have communicated it while you were here."

"Anyway, thank you for sharing your experience, even if it's now. I wish you an excellent trip, and may your upcoming volunteer assignments be exactly what you expect. Have a great trip!"
