The Experience

A typical day will be working the morning shift with the afternoon free. Work is neither physically nor mentally demanding and will vary from house care, cooking, animal care, and/or garden care. It all depends on the time of year. Life in the countryside is slow and follows the rhythm of nature, so in the summer we will get up earlier to beat the heat, and in the winter, wake ups are a bit later.

Me and my boyfriend stayed with Mallory for 3 weeks and had a really nice time. She provided good food and the accommodations were great and just like she described. Her son Luca is very sweet, and we loved all the dogs and cats. We worked 4 days a week for 4 hours a day. Outside of our work days, there were some other responsibilities regarding house cleaning and helping care for the baby. My one piece of advice would be to have these responsibilities clarified so everyone is on board and have the same expectations. We had a great time staying with Mallory and would recommend!

It was a great experience for connecting with nature, the place is some far from the cit, without own transport. I enjoyed spending time with Mallory and Luca.
They have a wonderful project, It would be helpful to have the activities and the expectations for how they should be carried out clearly defined from the start so that everything goes more.

Thank you so much for your presence and help. I totally agree that my communication of expectations and tasks needs to improve. Thank you for helping me recognize that and improve. All the best!

Mallory is an amazing person; I was able to learn a lot about Sicily and explore on weekends. I recommend it if you like the countryside and tranquility. There isn't much around, but you can go to nearby beaches and Palermo by bus. The house is very nice and the tasks are not complicated. I spent almost 2 months here and I would definitely recommend it.

It has been a very enriching experience during these two weeks in Calatafimi. From the first moment I felt very warmly welcomed and I could enjoy not only volunteering, but also the tranquility, the nature and the beauty of this place in Sicily.
For me it was especially valuable to practice and improve my Italian and to learn more closely about the culture and the lifestyle.
I carry with me very good memories, lessons learned, and above all, the satisfaction of having lived an authentic and different experience.
I am very grateful to Mallory and the beautiful Luca

I had a generally good experience; the activities are a bit challenging at first, but then you can develop them without major problems. I would just like the communication before approval to be clear. The water consumption in the house is restricted; there is a reservoir and there is no potable water directly from the company to the house. The gardening is done with water collected directly from a mine, which takes time and physical effort. Also, the garden is located outside the property, so I would suggest that the feedback on how the activities should be done be described beforehand. But overall, it was good.

This is valuable feedback that will help me improve the experience for future Worldpackers. Thank you! In regard to the water situation here, Sicily is in the beginning stages of desertification, so water is a precious resource. While I already mentioned a responsible use of water in the house rules, you are absolutely right that I should include that the tap water here is not potable. It's the norm here, but important information for travelers.
