The Experience

We’re renovating our 130-year-old villa in South Estonia and do most of the work ourselves. With a little one at home, extra hands make a big difference! Tasks range from sanding, painting and cleaning to more detailed work like restoring old ceiling and wall paintings. A hands-on, meaningful experience in a historic home.

The whole family was lovely and welcoming.
The food was really good, since Vlad's mother from Romania was there I got to experience a lot of Romanian dishes, but also some Estonian.
I did mostly household work, but also some renovating like sanding and painting.
My room was really big and everything was great.
I would definitely recommend this to other volunteers!

An unforgettable experience! The hosts were warm, welcoming, and very flexible with the work schedule. We got an authentic taste of Estonian culture through local food and traditional saunas while helping out with house renovations, yard work, and spending time with their sweet son, David. Transport was seamless since they kindly gave us rides to the nearby city whenever needed. As our first volunteering project, it couldn't have been better

Wonderful experience! The hosts Silja and Vlad were incredibly welcoming and flexible with the work schedule, we could decide how to split the hours. We learned about Estonian culture through their fantastic food and sauna, did house renovation and outdoor cleaning, and looked after their lovely son David. The bedroom were we stayed was really good too. They also drove us into the nearest city a few times, so transport was never an issue. Our first volunteering experience, and we'd do it again without a doubt!

Silja and Vlad are a lovely couple with a beautiful property, I had a great time. I didn’t do much with renovation help, but I think it also depends on your personal capabilities and comfortability. Rather, I helped to clean up the house a bit and helping to watch their young son. At times it was a bit unclear of what I was doing as there was no specific time frame nor instruction of work, usually it was more of a spur of the moment or loose instruction. Overall, I would recommend this volunteering experience to anyone who needs some time away in nature and can help out the family in any way.

Silja, Vlad and their lovely baby David are wonderful people. They are a loving family, and I truly enjoyed being part of their daily life while they restore a beautiful old house. They have already accomplished a lot, although there is still a journey ahead, and the place is turning out beautifully. I learned about composting, helped with different activities, and enjoyed delicious traditional homemade meals. The cultural exchange felt genuine and enriching. They also love coffee, which was perfect since I'm from Colombia. Highly recommended!
