The Experience

If you are tired of touristic places with too much noise, prolusion, being busy and exhausting yourself, then here is a place to calm down. A place to live in any pace you like. Ideally slow low calm & light. We are minimalist & natural. A place in a jungle with only the sounds of nature around you. It will be your home & you are the boss. All we need is just a few hours (less than 4) where you add some value to our concept still being built.

I volunteered at the Rajawaka project so my review is for that project only. I am so grateful to have been apart of such a meaningful project- restoring the forest and preventing forest fires. Its a beautiful area, very peaceful.
Saj is a great host, he is very knowledgeable , fun, and explains the project really well.
The work was very interesting and I learnt alot. Our duties were planting trees, removing weeds, and keeping the house tidy.
Akka is an amazing cook, I enjoyed tasting and learning about Sri Lankan food.
I will definitely be back.

I had an amazing experience at the reforestation camp. It was very dry so we didn't get to plant many trees but the daily tasks were normally fun and easy. The food throughout my stay was amazing and the hosts were very helpful and cool of hangout with. The accommodation was very simple but good considering you're in the middle of the forest. Would come back in the future to see the growth of the trees I planted haha

This volunteer experience was truly special. I helped with a the host reforestation project deep in the jungle the host Balangoda. We planted new trees, removed invasive weeds, and took care of young seedlings. We learnt a lot about nature conservation, environmental awareness, and Sri Lankan culture in general. The people involved in the project made me feel right at home. Jaj, an environmentalist and organizer of the project, shared so much of his wisdom with us, which was incredibly inspiring and interesting. And Acca's food was sooo delicious. It was simply an amazing time spent in nature.

I got moved to Balangoda Reforestation Program; my review is for that site only I enjoyed my time here! It is clear that they are doing great work for the environment & I felt that I was actively making a difference to the community & the planet. The people are kind & helpful, & the food is amazing! I would only recommend if you are ok being out of your comfort zone & are willing to experience different cultures. There is a lot of free time supplied, with games in the night & days off exploring the local region. I would only attend on my period w/ a menstrual cup (ie a product w/ no waste) :)
