The Experience

Our hostel is near Sierra Madre in Mexico, with incredible landscapes and close to nature. We need someone who can support us by being present when the hotel manager is resting. They must be at the hotel after 6 PM, and the most important days are Monday and Thursday. The worldpacker would help us hand over keys to guests and show them their room to guests arriving at that time.

Armando and his family were very welcoming and kind. I had a great experience with them. The work was simple and easy to follow. The town of Santiago is truly wonderful and the towns people are very friendly and hospitable. The mountains surrounding the area are breathtaking and provide awesome views when hiking and exploring. I recommend this experience for anyone who loves to be in nature.

This was our first host and it was a great experience! Such a beautiful place at a great location, really recommend if you like to hike and enjoy the city. Monterrey still amazes me. This host is very nice, I only wish there was more exchange and interraction face to face. But that was also on us. We were happy with the facilities for our short stay. But if you stay longer you might want an uppgradera on the kitchen and the laundry. Overall lovely experience highly recommend!⭐

Overall the hostel was nice, well kept, and welcoming. The town wasn't too big, there was lots of pretty and walkable areas, also a few hikes just an uber away! When I got there I was told I'd be sanding and staining chairs instead of the gardening tasks he had previously mentioned. This was okay but i felt there was little instruction given and ended up having to restart after a few days of work. I stayed the week minimum and finished what i could in the 20 hours. Armando was nice but can improve on communicating tasks and jobs before hand as i had asked before arriving what i'd be doing.

The hostel was clean and peaceful with a beautiful garden to relax in. the work was not as stated and the communication was poor. we met other travelers at the hostel that had the same experience. they give minimal instruction, then got upset when the task isn't completed correctly. it is a beautiful place to stay but quality decreases with poor hosts. we were open minded to completing the tasks but decided to shorten our stay to the week minimum since it was not what we had agreed or applied for. the work was power tools and staining. We still had a good stay but slightly disappointed.

I really enjoyed my time with Armanda. He is a very chill guy who is understanding and willing to work with you. Hours were as described and all the tasks related to the post. Note: you should be comfortable with basic power tools. The town is absolutely beautiful with many opportunities for hikes during the day and just enjoying the plaza lights at night. Public transportation is not the best though and even Uber can be unreliable.
