I think people interested in volunteering here may see the 100+ pictures and high reviews and think this is more organized than it is. You will not be given a clear lesson plan or training. For most classes you will not have a Vietnamese assistant to help you teach and control the kids. Sometimes I didn't have transport to classes. For the most part, you won't be able to go into Hanoi city during the week, as it takes an hour to get there. The rooms and bathrooms are not cleaned for you. I was not comfortable in the house, and the teaching was overwhelming. Other volunteers felt the same.
I would definitely recommend staying with Dung's family. You will feel totally comfortable being there, they are a very kind family, and you will laugh a lot with them. You will also meet many people from different parts of the world, and you will share much living at home. Teaching children will be something that will keep you active and you will laugh a lot with them. You will do it right away with the area and you will have time to know different places.
Mr. Dung and his family were very friendly and welcoming, the dorms are simple but spacious, the beds comfy, the food tasty and the fellow volunteers become friends quite fast.
The NGO is in a restructuring phase right now (soon all is settled) and it can be a bit chaotic and unorganized from time to time, but if you are flexible, spontaneous and open for new experiences, then this is a place for you!
Anyway the whole idea of Worldpackers is to make new experiences, so off you go and join Dung's Family and Yepvin and support their ambitious cause to teach English to the local kids there!
