The Experience

Join us in the peaceful mountains of Yoshino, Nara, where you'll experience daily life at a traditional Japanese temple while helping preserve the surrounding Satoyama (traditional rural landscape). Our temple values nature, sustainability, and community. This is a wonderful opportunity for volunteers who enjoy working outdoors, learning about Japanese culture, and contributing to environmental conservation.

It was truly a wonderful experience with Yoshiko and her family - that I would recommend for everyone who wants to tap into authentic japanese culture & connect with nature! I felt like part of the family right away, as we shared many meals together. The tasks were communicated well even though we had a language barrier. Also the work shifts were easy to do and varied from day to day - from producing Mochi, working with Bamboo in the Center Forrest or cleaning the garden for a big buddhist celebration. Will come back for sure :)

My time at the Center was simply amazing, and I couldn't have asked for a nicer first volunteering experience. Yoshiko and her family were so welcoming, always considerate and caring. They organized many activities together, and even included me in a special ceremony and introduced me to their extended family. The accomodation was spotless and very comfortable too. The setup with the other volunteers was great and we became great friends. HIGHLY recommend!!

I went to the Center for 9 days. The moment I arrived there I felt very welcomed and safe. Yoshiko-san and her family are really kind and friendly. Yoshiko-san invited me for many fun activities during my volounteer. It was really comfortable and I am very thankful for this experience.

I really enjoyed my stay at the Center. The work was good, we had different tasks to do such as outside or inside work, some simple handwork such as making paper flowers and I also spent some hours taking care of the IG page of the Center. The home stay was amazing: all in Japanese style, kitchen, laundry, even the bath tub. Yoshiko & family always involved me and the other volunteers in other activities, such as pottery making, shared meals and discovering the nature around. It's a great opportunity to get close to Japanese culture and Buddhist philosophy as well, I will come back!
