The Experience

Baby turtles can hatch at any time, day or night! Your role is to stay nearby (right next to a beautiful beach) and check on our hatchery every two hours to make sure any newly hatched turtles are safe and not trapped during the heat of the day. Essentially, you’ll help keep an eye on our little hatchlings, making sure they’re doing well throughout the day and helping release them at sunrise or sunset, when conditions are safest for them.

We stayed at the Ceiba the shelter house with 4 other girls. We had the best time together. A lot of people volunteered to help out at the turtle hatchery. Even the local community helped! The locals and the people at Finca the shelter and Ceiba the shelter were really welcoming and friendly. It felt like you were welcomed into their little family. They have many projects that you can volunteer to help with. Drake Bay and El Progresso are really nice places to stay at. It's somewhat secluded which makes it it's own little paradise. The nature is beautiful and there's so much to do and to explore!
