The Experience

We are a home, away from home, in a typical portuguese small town, 3 min walking distance to a long sandy beach, or to small beaches in the middle of rocks, with puddles of crystal water, with sea stars . Our main house is in a quiet street, but 2min walking distance to the bars and restaurants area, to the bus stop, and taxis. Volunteers will be helping in different tasks in any of the houses, in and out Alvor

A nice place, but I didn’t know I would be the only english speaker in the team.
This thing made me feel very left out and made me leave after one day.
Also the hostel is closed and the work is done at other place.

Our stay at Ar de Mar was our first voluntary experience. The tasks were different than expected because at our arrival the hostel was closed, so we had to do some other stuff like helping to clean the house, garden and the garage.
It was a surprise every day because we were not told our tasks beforehand, but only when they were to be done.
The tasks were not sophisticated and we didn‘t worked all the 5 hours.
We had a lot of fun with the other volunteers. Alvor is a very nice village with a lot of bars and restaurants and the beach is only a few minutes away.
It was great, thank you! :)

Cristina is an amazing person and along with the other helpers/volunteers they make the small Alvor a rare gem.
Work has been fair and square what agreed, as well as the hours, Cristina is super flexible, she let us finish earlier when we had to go to Benagil, the city is nice, full of bars and people!
Obrigado for the experience,
See you soon.

Cristina was an excellent host! She always asked us if we are doing well and treated us like family. She even helped us drive to a hospital when we had a health problem. A very kind person and a great host.

I had a lot of fun in Alvor, the place is really beautiful with lots of restaurants and beaches. Also the guesthouse team were very nice, our host Christina was kind enough to even drive me to the hospital since I got sick during my stay there. Thank you a lot, I’ll definitely visit again!
