Program Details

Hostelling International Western Norway believes that a hostel should be much more than just a place to stay. We strive to create a welcoming community of conscious global travelers.

Hostelling is about connecting with people from around the world, discovering new places, and experiencing different cultures. It is about sharing stories, learning from one another, and building friendships that can last a lifetime.

It is also about traveling responsibly, respecting local culture and heritage, and caring for the natural environment. Through meaningful interactions and shared experiences, we aim to inspire a deeper understanding of the world and the people who call it home.

Note: we prioritise volunteers who can stay at least 6 weeks, but all are welcome to apply!

Activities & Shift

To help create a welcoming and inclusive community, volunteers will:

- Encourage global interaction that fosters fun, friendship, learning, peace, and cultural understanding.
- Socialize with hostel guests and help create opportunities for guests to connect with one another.
- Plan, organize, and host social events and activities such as hikes, games, quizzes, cultural cooking, barbecues, talks, and sightseeing.
- Host our daily coffee & cookies, which is a key part of the hostel experience.
- Assist with updating the activities board, activities calendar, and activities info on our website.
- Create engaging content for social media: share the joy, sense of community, and memorable experiences of hostel life through photos, videos, and stories.
- Help with kitchen waste removal, supporting our commitment to sustainability and a green hostel environment.
- Keep activity areas clean and tidy, and always clean up after themselves and the activities they organize.
- Volunteers might be asked to keep the night phone in case of emergencies.
