The Experience

Social volunteers help create a welcoming community through hikes, games, quizzes, barbecues, cultural cooking, talks, sightseeing, music, and other social activities. A daily coffee, cookies, and conversation gathering is a key part of the experience. Volunteers also assist with updating the activity board, social media posts, basic clean-up, and kitchen waste removal. Participation is limited to EU/Schengen citizens or passport holders.

I had an amazing experience volunteering at the hostel for six weeks! The atmosphere at the hostel is welcoming and social, which made it easy to meet people from all over the world. The activities were always fun, from hikes and city walks to game nights, karaoke and much more. Volunteering was a great way to experience Bergen and especially the beautiful nature around. I really enjoyed meeting the other volunteers and staff and making great memories together. I would definitely recommend the hostel to anyone looking for a fun, social and unforgettable volunteering experience!

During my seven weeks experience at the hostel, I met so many wonderful people from all over the world. I shared hard work, laughter, karaokes, dances, sunsets and a lot of water not only from the sky, but also on our foreheads! I learned so much through the different cultural exchanges and the various activities we did and took part in allowed me to discover Bergen and its surroundings, while also broadening my horizons and developing new ideas. the staff was always kind and welcoming, the other volunteers I shared this experience with are people I will always carry in my heart.

I absolutely loved my time at the hostel. The tasks are 100% social events, volunteers do not do housework or reception. I had a fantastic time taking groups of guests on hikes around Bergen. the hostel is incredibly generous to volunteers. Volunteer bedrooms are only two people each, and the hostel provides food so volunteers almost never need to buy their own food unless they want to. You will adore the hostel if you are a genuinely sociable person who loves people. The volunteers plan and run the events without too much constant oversight, so make sure you're a self-directed person!

I stayed at the hostel in Bergen for a month as a volunteer, and it was an incredible experience from start to finish. Every day felt like a new adventure — hiking in the mornings through the stunning Norwegian landscapes, visiting museums, and exploring the city through its amazing food scene. The hostel itself has a great atmosphere, very welcoming and full of positive energy. What really made the difference for me was the staff. Everyone was genuinely kind, helpful, and supportive during my stay. They made me feel at home !
