I had a good experience at the hostel. I was a cleaner at first and I don't speak a lot of Portuguese. We found a good way of texting with translator and showing the tasks, so that I always understood what to do. The work was not very stressful. After one week (of two) I had an accident on the foot so I couldn't clean anymore. They reacted very friendly and understanding. From then on I did the reception in the night. My Portuguese was just good enough for that and there was always somebody to help in more complicated situations.

Thankfully I landed on a great team of fellow volunteers! Hours are decent, only 3 days work per week:) Just beware that 95% of guests and volunteers are brazilians, so if you are international you ideally wanna speak portuguese. Also Beware that itapuã is a whole different world to the centre turístico of Salvador
