The Experience

We are a community of potato lovers in the north of Germany. Our passion is cultivating potatoes from all over the world, cooking tasty dishes and serving them to our guests. We run the one and only potato farm hotel in Germany. Every day we repair, renovate and finish building things. In addition, we fell trees and chop wood. If you are a handyman, then you are more than welcome to help us. We plan with 5 days a week and 6 hours per day.

Kartoffel Hotel offers cozy room and delicious food, people are friendly.Although there was a little drama in between,as I hate party and have to work longer at it,I discussed this with my host hoping for a shorter working time at a party. It didn't work because one has to take care of guests' needs,I also realized that gastronomic job doesn't suit me.After all we made a decision which is best for us,I left the hotel earlier than planned. My best memories in Kartoffel Hotel is the encounter with people,we chat, eat, watch football, chop wood, run on frozen lake together, which I'd like to remember:)

Hi Shank, Yes, it actually only took one day to realize that physical work in gastronomy is not your thing. That's what an internship is for. However, it doesn't help much if you hate parties because you don't feel comfortable around people. No matter where you do an internship and no matter what tasks you get, always try to be open minded and do your job as well as possible. It will help you broaden your horizons :-) I wish you every success and growth in your journey. Greetings from your Team, Olaf

The experience was absolutely amazing! Olaf the owner of the hotel is a very friendly and humble person , he treats his volunteers and workers with respect and kindness He always sits with us during lunch time to eat all together which shows a great sign of a humble leader. Even the local workers there are so nice and fun to work with. I learned alot from this experience i developed new skills like how professionally to make the bed for guests , helping in the kitchen and doing some maintenance. The food is delicious and the rooms are so comfy and satisfying so i couldn't ask for more!

I had a great time volunteering at the hotel. I learned about local history and met many other volunteers. I recommend volunteering here if you get the chance.
