The Experience

Our farm consists of 88 acres all permanent pasture (except small wood and kitchen garden). Livestock - about 200 sheep, about 20 Devon cattle, some poultry and one elderly sow. We are licenced as organic and our general aim is to farm in a humane and sustainable way, and to restore and maintain the traditional landscape features of the North Devon AONB.

I had such an interesting and eventful three weeks on the farm. It was also an incredible opportunity to immerse myself in British culture, from BBC Radio 3 and Radio 4 to everyday life and tea! I spent most of my time working in the orchard, clearing grass, bracken and brambles, as well as helping with washing the cutlery and other tasks around the farm and elsewhere. I also enjoyed the beautiful nature of North Devon, its beaches, the farmers' market and watching the solar eclipse together. I already miss the Wright family, the two lambs and all the animals very much💚

I absolutely adored my time at the farm. There were a variety of takes to help out with so everyday was different, and you were able to develop your own routine. I loved learning about different farm animals while helping to take care of them. It was a lot of fun helping in the kitchen. Karen, Lawrence, and Bennet were the best, instantly made me feel at home. I had the most incredible time and will be back sooner than later :)

I was met and taken back to the train station ,which was really nice, thanks. The family made me feel welcome.
It was February so still really cold, but we always come back from the fields to a warm meal. Absolutely fabulous every time, many thanks to all who made it.

This was a new experience for me on a living farm.i have learned lots of new things, including laying hedges. The Devon way, interesting and would like to see it in the summer when it's growing.
Also met two nice volunteers from France 🇫🇷.
I enjoyed talking to Lawrence about the history of the farms and local villages

What a wonderful and charismatic family! The house itself has so much character and the day I walked in I was enchanted. To then be greeted by two young sheep dogs, Jess and Jo, and around eleven cats, my day couldn't get any better! I learnt many valuable skills here, there is emphasis on sustainability and it is taught with patience and is truley authentic. I was spoilt with perfect cups of tea and delicious homegrown and organic meals made with love everyday. I must note you need to be prepared to be proactive and self-sufficient when offering your help at this stay.

My time here was an amazing experience! There are some daily tasks that are set, and there are usually also different tasks to do daily depending on what needs to be done, both farm and household. It was a fun variety and meant I got to learn and try many new things. The Wright Family are great people and lovely to be around, I enjoyed spending time with them! It was great to be around all the animals as well, if you like being outside and around animals this place is amazing! The local area is really lovely, the beach is a nice walk away and beautiful. I would recommend!
