The Experience

Hi there! This is Umberto, I manage a nice, little, vegan restaurant with a few rooms in Val Varaita, 1700m high. That's a good challenge, in Italy there aren't yet many vegan mountain's hotel. I'm gonna need some help to manage it: a couple of hours per day, a few more hours in the weekend, at least one day totally off. If you share an antispecist vision of the world and you like mountains then you'll be fine!

This is a small village in the mountains with not many people. You'll often have to live alone and endure a life with fewer social activities. There's no more nightlife, but it's quiet and peaceful. You'll have plenty of time to connect with nature and make friends with it. Slow down your pace and immerse yourself in the natural environment, and you'll discover a lot of fun in the mountains. .

The experience was strong and I learned a lot from it, from the people I met and from my walks on the Mountain. I recommend this host for people who like to be in a little restaurant environment among the mountains, with the possibility to have several different walks.

Working at the guest house was a truly incredible experience. Bellino is a super cute area with amazing hikes! The work was mostly cleaning, preparing rooms for guests, and helping out in the kitchen and other various tasks. Everyone is super kind and friendly which made the whole experience much more enjoyable! The restaurant is all plant based and the food is really incredible :)I was also given the valuable opportunity to practice my Italian with customers. Traveling alone can often be scary and lonely but getting to know everyone at the guest house made my time in Bellino really special.

It was an experience working in a vegan restaurant while not being one. I learned a lot about veganism, made some mistakes during the way, but we got through it. If you aren't vegan, talk to Umberto and really reflect on the positive and negative aspects. The work was relatively easy, but there are a lot of rules, so you should ask about them. Most of the time you are going to be alone with the nature, so if you are a people person, this may not be for you. Be prepared to walk a lot. Overall, definitely an experience, it was fun while it lasted.
