I loved my time at the restaurant. Sylou is an incredible person and chef, I got to practice my French, talk to the customers, learn new cooking skills and eat delicious meals that Sylou made for us. She has clear rules that make it easier to know how to actually be helpful around the kitchen and I also enjoyed our chats before and after service. I would recommend it for anyone that wants to experience the French countryside and to connect with nature since there are trails for walking or riding a bike.

I had an extremely welcoming and immersive experience at the host, Sylou was a wonderful host who was very generous in every respect. We had delicious meals and lots of ingredients to cook with too! I found it really useful to practice my French through working in the kitchen, serving customers and behind the bar, some nights were more busy and hands on than others, to be expected in hospitality work. The location is remote and quiet, so perfect for walks and reading :) I am so grateful for such a learning experience, it was amazing to work alongside Sylou!! Thank you :)

I stayed one month with Sylou alongside two Worldpackers volunteers. The area and restaurant are beautiful, and we had daily time to explore, especially after Sylou provided bikes. The location is quiet and quite isolated, so opportunities to meet locals were limited, though I did practice French with a friendly elderly man nearby. I also learned a lot about French cooking—Sylou is an excellent chef and teacher, preparing delicious meals for guests and volunteers alike.

Sylou was great at giving tasks and helping you understand them. The restaurant is nice and the meals are delicous. In my case i felt I had lots of food to eat and also a very comfortable bed. Only expect it to be a bit isolated, but that's known so get ready for a relaxing and learning experience ! One of a kind !

I had such a wonderful stay with Sylou in Chasnay. The restaurant is beautiful and I was able to be involved in all parts of the service. Sylou was very generous with her time, and helped me a lot with my French. I also really enjoyed watching and being able to help in the kitchen. Chasnay and the surrounds are so beautiful, I loved doing big walks and cycles through the forest and vineyards. Thank you so much again Sylou — I would highly recommend the experience!

I spent three wonderful weeks volunteering with Sylou at her fabulous restaurant, located in the beautiful Nièvre region. Highly recommended for anyone looking for an authentic French countryside experience. The Work It was a well-balanced experience that allowed me to contribute to multiple facets of the project with time split between the kitchen and the garden. The Hosts Sylou and Richard are exceptionally warm and attentive, and they truly went out of their way to take care of me. Tip: Knowing French or being keen to learn is essential for true immersion within the community.

The restaurant offers quality, home cooked meals with artistic flair. There is a lot to learn quickly. Travelers need to have some athletic ability. The job is physically demanding. I was glad I had my bicycle so that I could explore the countryside and nearby villages.

My stay with Sylou & the host has been an unforgettable experience. I would recommend it to any volunteers who are interested in restauration, connecting with French locals, and exploring nature. It checked all my boxes! I got the opportunity to get involved in practically all front-to-back processes of the restaurant, from customer-facing jobs such as bartending/serving drinks/waitering to kitchen roles such as cooking/plating as well as general admin responsibilities (housekeeping, some procurement, etc). Sylou is the best host, worldpackers will feel loved and well taken care of.
