The Experience

We love living in the country and really enjoy living in this part of the world. At the moment it is just the two of us, Claire who is an art teacher married to James who is a timber frame carpenter/instructor. We feel it is important to create opportunities for young people to travel and have affordable experiences. We have a field which has a vegetable and flower garden, a camping circle, two retired ponies, and a large polytunnel

This was my first experience with Worldpackers and I had a great time staying with James and Claire. They're wonderful people who make you feel at ease and are great to talk to. We spent a lot of time completing tasks up at the field, such as building a fence, planting seedlings and spreading around mulch. The animals are lovely and the environment is beautiful. Sherborne is only a 15 minute bike ride away and there are loads of public footpaths to explore. We went to a real English country fair and I really enjoyed all the fantastic dishes Claire made. Thanks for everything James & Claire!

James and Claire, dang where do I start, they’re some of the best people you’ll ever meet!! Work was very fun, ranging from shoveling, to taking care of the horses, painting, pruning, and even some woodworking (by my request). Claire is an amazing cook and James is an incredible teacher! They made sure we had an amazing experience by bringing us to different events around town, things like a tour in a orchard (incredibly informational), a folklore concert, a pub concert, various friend dinners and even getting to see Claire perform in a dancing presentation! Thank you James and Claire!! 🫶🏼🫶🏼

Claudia and Riley were a joy to have around and they love to be busy - even inventing or seeing tasks that needed doing! They have a great sense of humour, not afraid to get their hands dirty, very good with all the animals and gave us some tips about growing veggies. We took them to lots of social events and they fitted in really well. Best of luck - come back anytime - it was a lot of fun!

Truly an incredible experience. James and Claire were the best hosts we could have asked for. They were flexible and communicative, but also just so fun to be around. They took us to different events with them to meet people and learn more about the local cultures, plus the food was all amazing. Accommodations were great and the work was easy to understand, ranging from pet sitting to gardening and building and painting. A nice village and easy transport to larger cities. Would 1000% recommend!!

It was great to stay at James' and Claires place! The working schedule was clear and the gardening tasks were also suitable for those without prior gardening experience. James and Claire are also really nice people, and they are really fun to talk to.

I would defenitely recommend!

James and Claire were lovely! Our time at the farm was great and we learned a lot. The atmosphere was very relaxed and friendly. This was great as a first world packing experience and I'm so glad I decided to go 😊. The animals were the sweetest and made the experience even better!
