The Experience

We’re a small family living in rural Scotland at Forret Mill Steading. Life here is quiet, family orientated but we hope interesting. We have horses, chickens, sheep in the winter, open land, long walks, and a young family who enjoy meeting people from different parts of the world. It's unlikely I can have anyone stay during the winter months due to the accomodation not being suitable. www.forretmill.co.uk Instagram @ForretMillSteading

An AMAZING stay!! To start, Rory was incredibly kind and accommodating, always trying to make sure we explored and had fun. Workdays were quite flexible and tasks were always straightforward ranging from babysitting and dog sitting to various farm chores. Transport was easy to figure out (plus Rory helped a lot) and there are a lot of good locations nearby like St. Andrew's and Edinburgh. Highly recommend!!

Amazing experience! Rory was super welcoming and the farm is a very beautiful place. Tasks consisted on walking Cooper, sometimes watching over the kids, mowing, pruning and taking care of the chickens! Transportation from the farm to Cupar was really easy and cheap and from Cupar you can basically get anywhere. Rory also helped us make itineraries for our days off. Overall an amazing experience, thanks Rory!

I had a really great time here. The workload was fair and flexible, leaving me plenty of time to read or go cycling. The tasks mainly involved playing with the children and walking the dog. Rory is very kind and always happy to share Scottish culture, along with some great book recommendations. If your goal is to explore the mountainous regions of Scotland, keep in mind that this place is quite remote and not well served by public transport. However, if you're simply looking for a quiet break, it's perfect.

This was my first work exchange experience, and I truly couldn't have asked for a better stay. Rory and Lauren were incredibly lovely, welcoming, and an absolute joy to stay with. They made me feel comfortable from the very beginning and created such a warm, positive environment. The work expectations were clear and fair, and I felt appreciated for the help I gave. It was a wonderful first Worldpackers experience, and I'm so grateful I got to spend time with them. I would absolutely recommend this host to anyone looking for a rewarding exchange.

It was such a beautiful experience! I'm so grateful to them for opening the doors of their home and family to me. I would definitely come back. I'm going to miss Cooper so much!
