The Experience

We are a luxury eco lodge by the mountains in Brazil, 4h from Rio de Janeiro. The project is very special, inside an Environmental Reserve where we have lots of waterfalls, lakes, trails and beautiful landscape. The main reason to host volunteer is to attract English speakers so we provide an experience for our local team to learn the language. Probably, the tasks will be related to Kitchen Hand, Gardening, guiding, etc.

I think is one of the best volunteers from the app. You have a place for yourself which is confortable and beautiful (10mins away from the hotel). You live surrounded by amazing nature, lakes, waterfalls and animals. People and hosts are wonderfull and you can talk and adjust with them anything you need. Make sure you talk about food in advance in case you have special needs. Work is easy and they respect the schedule completely. You will live 45 mins away from the next city, so it could get lonely at times, just make sure you are ok it. You have a rest/bar 5mins walk.

Well, my first volunteer experience was not exactly the best. The place itself is great, as is every single person who works in this hotel. However, be prepared that almost nothing of what is written in the description of the position is actually true. There will be no gardening, no guiding, only washing the dishes, because this is the only work where your help will be actually needed. Don't read the PDF file that Claudia will send you at the beginning, and don't try to be proactive. Just work in the kitchen, wash the dishes, and everything will be great. Only 600 characters for the review???

Unfortunately we had a strange experience with Vladimir, he didn't accept anything we said to him, he questioned everything and always had enormous difficulty adapting to people, culture, etc. It seems like you have a very closed personality and culture. We couldn't make him understand the tasks, and finally, none of the team members were able to interact with him. So, he didn't even help us much (because he would question any different task) and he also didn't interact with the team (since training English was always our main objective). It seems he wnated to interview us all the time instead of being part or adding nice things to the team. The PDF in question is a manual with arrival instructions, local rules, etc., I didn't understand why he didn't like it, it was even written by the volunteer before him where she helped us put everything that would be relevant for future people to know.

This experience was amazing. You really are immersed in nature. This experience is more about teaching English than anything else, the people are so kind. I would highly recommend if you are wanting to get away from the hustle and bustle. The closest town is 4,5km away so no quick midnight snack tracks. And traveling to and from the property is a long journey but once you are there the views are terrific. Working hours are really great and host is very flexible as long as there is communication. And work tasks are really basic; washing dishes, carrying stuff to help set up or taking photo
