The Experience

I am a local living in Barra de Pacuare in Caribbean coast, between sea, jungle and river. The place have a garden, animals, and a small grocery store. We also host. We are surrounded by volunteering projects (sea turtles, manatees), so we meet international people. We want to develop on a sustainable way and be part of Biodiversity protection. We have a small coconut farm. From march, sea turtle season starts!

Exactly as described amidst the river, the sea and the jungle. It's what it takes to get deep in the nature, be content with simplicity and be absolutely accepting towards local way of life. Pura vida makes true sense. Tasks are as per the season, they involve clearing up the farm, cleaning spaces, picking up waste from the beach. The best part is Hernan, who patiently and in the very tico way keeps chill and leads by minimum but effective words. There is always time for a coconut and you never go thirsty. Sea and the river and the jungle are all for you to explore. Pura vida amigos!

My week here was wonderful thanks to Hernán who was truly passionate by his life here. He was always present with us to exchange about wildlife and show his way of living. The place is truly beautiful and the bed cosy but you shouldn't be afraid of wildlife and a bit of discomfort (it is in nature, you always get dirty and the houses are made by their own hands, it is precious but not with much confort). I didn't mind because the surrundings and the outside were just very beautiful. The food was amazing too ! Thank you to Patricia for hosting me and sharing a part of her life.

The reserve is an absolute amazing place to be. It's the perfect spot for experiencing the authentic Carribbean Life with food and everything. The accommodation is very basic but after some days you'll get used to that. Patricia and Hernan are so heartwarming nice people and you can always communicate and talk with them about everything. The work is not really much and more fun and interesting then real work. Also, if you go in turtle season you have good chances to see some or even babies at the nearby Hatchery. I can recommend this to everyone who wants to experience the Caribbean Life.

Our experience at the reserve was unique. patricia and her brother Hernan are very welcoming and always kind, the nature around and the animals are fascinating. the activities to do were sometimes short and light while others more heavy, we cleaned the beach, collected coconuts and other things. the area is very isolated and to reach other places you always have to take the boat, we still managed to visit a few other places on our free days. the food is very good. we recommend this experience if you want to stay in touch with nature and animals and discover a different reality.

I loved my stay here. Patricia and her brother Hernan made me feel very welcome from day one. Hernan especially, he taught me how to fish, how to cook a lot of things, we played cards for hours, and went on fishing trips where he told me about all kinds of animals that we saw! This place was very peaceful. The work was minimal each day, but that is probably because I stayed for such a short amount of time (6 days). After work each day I would lay in the hammocks and cuddle with the dogs, go to the beach, or play cards. I was always well fed and comfortable here. I plan on coming back :)
