The Experience

“Fujitatami Guesthouse” is run by tatami factory. Tatami is a traditional Japanese floor mat. The main job involves cleaning the hostel and making beds, but occasionally, you may also be asked to help with check-ins, assist with tatami workshops, or support the events we organize. Since the tasks vary, a certain level of adaptability is required. Ideally, we are looking for someone with previous experience working or helping in a hostel.

My stay at the guest house was awesome! Kana and Issei are so kind, funny and welcoming and work at the guesthouse was always very feasible. I loved sleeping on tatami, going around Izumi and having dinner parties with Wouter, Myiachi and other nice people :) It's well connected to go on day trips too and we had a fair share of nice adventures!! I hope I get to stay there again. Can't recommend enough!

My experience at the guest house was absolutely amazing. Everyone there were super kind and made me feel beyond welcome! Issei-san, Kana-san and everyone around are very communicative and open to suggestions. I personally suggested and got to hold some Swedish lessons and bake Swedish snacks for locals / guests-- It was a lot of fun!! (And also an amazing opportunity to practice Japanese as well as translation.) I strongly recommend applying if you want a true taste of local Kansai culture!!

My stay at the guest house was an amazing experience I'll never forget! Issay and Kana are incredibly sweet and excellent hosts. Even though they were busy with many events, they still made time to host a sushi party and chat with everyone. I loved meeting and going on adventures with so many lovely people, like Issay's parents, Wouter and all the guests from around the world. The Tatami workshop was fascinating and it was so much fun to make my own. The daily work is never too overwhelming, even when the hostel is fully booked. I'll definitely be back, even if it's just as a guest! :)

This place become like a home to me, I felt less like a volunteer and more like a family member. You can see how tatami is made and socialize. The work is pretty easy and generally done within 2 hours, hosts organize roadtrips or meals together and you get to understand the Japanese culture more. Some of my happiest moments in Japan were here :)

That was such an amazing experience! I met international people at the hostel and could hang out with them. The owners are really nice. It takes 40 min to go to the center but you can actually do it everyday. I recommend you
