The Experience

Hello everyone, I am Gill, 27 years old and owner of an old italian farmhouse on the border between Tuscany and Umbria. I moved from Belgium to Italy in 2021 to switch my life completely. To start a farm, provide myself with organic and healthy food, to eventually become self-sufficient in every aspect. I can use help with maintaining the land, taking care of animals, some of the household tasks.

It was an incredible experience! Gill is a kind and hospitable host, making me feel right at home from the moment I arrived. Some task require more physical work than other but it is very broad you will do many different things during your stay. I learned a great deal about sustainable living and zero-waste practices. Gill's commitment to eco-friendly farming techniques and a sustainable lifestyle was truly inspiring. The farm itself is a bit isolated, but you can explore cities like Florence or Rome in 1 or 3 hours. I recommend this experience to anyone, is amazing.

Volunteering on the farm was great:) I got to learn a lot about sustainable/natural living and got to contribute to it through my work. We always had the best and most fresh food. Gill was a great host and was very very hospitable making his home very welcoming. The work was reasonable but I enjoy working outside with my hands so it's probably different for everyone. I'd say the only downfall about it is that the location is very remote, so if you're not able to slow down and just be in nature with not much else, then this experience probably isn't for you. Overall a great/learning experience!

My time at Gill's farm was wonderful and I wish I stayed longer. Gill is a fun and motivated young person that is very invested in his project and has created a beautiful place that keeps flourishing under his care. He taught me so much about his life at the farm, restoring the house, taking care of the garden and the animals and leading a sustainable life. The farm is located in the most beautiful spot overlooking the Tuscan hills and the lake, so I enjoyed some unforgettable sunsets. The work is quite physically demanding but enjoyable. Can't wait to visit Gill and the farm again soon.

I would recommend this experience to everyone, especially if you want to get in touch with nature and learn about agriculture. The area around the farm is soo beautiful, but sometimes it can get a bit too quiet and lonely :) The work differs from season to season, I did some painting in the house, worked in the olive yard and did some planting. Sometimes I worked longer than expected because somethings needed to be finished. Gill is an amazing person, he showed me some places in the area and was more a friend than a host. I'll definitely be back soon to this special place!! Thank you Gill :)
