Great location near the beach, amazing skatepark, gym, free surfboard and skateboard rental, great staff meals and use of a staff car. The laid back vibe of a surf town is definitely reflected in the organisation and management of the work. This may be challenging for some volunteers to adapt to as responsibilities are very varied. This place is best when the weather is sunny and you are able to explore nearby beaches and enjoy the coastline. Elli is great and as for Shingo was not present for much of my time there. I'd recommend 2-4 weeks as an ideal time here.

I have mixed feelings about this experience, sometimes it was great and others not. So keep in mind this: Don't expect a warm welcome from the hosts, you are there to help and you can only rely in the other volunteers to get acquainted with the place. There is a schedule but the hostel runs 24/7 and you are expected to attend the reception regardless, if you are in. There are no fixed ours for lunch and dinner. The volunteers dorm (no windows) is right above the bar which opens every day. In Japan they smoke ONLY indoors. Shingo, the owner, is not who manages or responds in this profile.

In general the experience is okay but there were a few things that were quite bothering… it was very unorganised and that just made it very stressful to interact with customers, no one actually gave you a tour and told u what to do u kinda just had to figure it out, the accommodation is directly above the bar area so there was loud music and even worse the smoke from people's Zigarette would collect up there. However there is a car u can use and surf-/skateboards to use and the skating facility is really nice!

The first few days were disorganised but then we established a proper rota which can vary from 15-35 hours. Ellie managed the place while Shingo, the owner, was away and was a pleasure to work with and made amazing food. There are 2 dogs and the place is pet-friendly. The dorm is directly above the bar which is sometimes open late with loud music and smoking indoors and the smoke collected in the room that the volunteers sleep in. the guest house would be an amazing place to volunteer for summer, with a lot of activities to do when the weather is good. the guest house is small, but we could use the car.

Shingo and Eri are so welcoming and made me feel right at home. I worked here during low season, so it wasn't that busy. But I still had such an amazing time. The town itself was pretty quiet, but the beach so close by made everything 10x better. The workload is very doable, and a fun way to get in contact with the locals. I only stayed two weeks, but I had such a great time and will definitely return! Thank you so much <3
