The Experience

Hi there, we are a big friendly family who find peace in our large countryside space with our three energetic dogs, two free range toddlers and many a project. Come and get stuck in to help rebuild our glasshouse where some experience in carpentry would be great but not essential! Depending how long you stay there will be opportunities to get out in the garden/veg patch, help with beekeeping and explore what Devon has to offer!

This past month has been fantastic. Such kind, hard working people, with a great family and lovely friends. We stayed in a comfortable cabin, that included a bed in the loft, a sitting area, a bathroom, and a kitchenette. The work was varied and fulfilling! We even managed to experience some beekeeping off season. During the week we worked, with Saturday and Sunday as days off. The house is pretty isolated and quiet, and our hosts would take us to the train station for our trips to different cities, and they took us on different outings and visits. We will miss everyone and hope to be back!

This was a very pleasant stay, in a peaceful place, with Simon and Caroline being attentive and respectful hosts.
I learned about beekeeping across its different stages — harvesting, setup, extraction, understanding the bees and their way of life — and also took part in a Show .Simon was a good teacher and let me take part in the whole process independently, which made for a rewarding experience.
There were other activities as well, including helping build a wooden greenhouse.
I really enjoyed the food — excellent, varied, and made with good ingredients.

I had an amazing time volunteering with Simon and Caroline. They welcomed me like family from the very first day and made me feel completely at home. The work was enjoyable, well organized, and I learned so much about beekeeping, nature, and sustainable living. We shared wonderful meals and great conversations, which also helped me improve my English. I'm truly grateful for this experience and highly recommend staying with them. Thank you for everything!

Granny's the home was my first international volunteering experience. I found myself in a completely new setting (In southern England, surrounded by nature, animals, bees, and rural activities)! I was nervous before arriving, but Simon and Caroline are (like everyone I met during my month in Devon) kind, friendly, and truly caring toward everything and everyone. I recommend it to anyone who wants to experience a life completely removed from the “urban world” and are interested in learning about beekeeping, gardening, construction and activities related to the soil and nature!

Simon and his family were very kind and respectful, and our stay was very pleasant. The tasks were very clear and easy to complete. We were able to cook traditional Mexican food for them, and our family Sundays were wonderful.🤗🤗🤗 See you soon
