The Experience

I am an early retired engineer, had a leg amputated in 2018 but get around with a prothesis and enjoy life a lot, helping travellers and doing a lot of research online. I am a quite, humble, honest, flexible and kind person, expect my guests to be similar. Help includes; cooking (together), cleaning, shopping, walks in the park, assistance for events and home-improvements (if possible). You have the opportunity to explore Munich and Bavaria.

I'm very happy that Rudolf gave me the opportunity to stay at his place. He is very generous and welcoming. I could practice my intermediate English because he speaks clearly. I also learned some German by spending time with his friends and former volunteers. The room is comfortable, and the location is convenient. The house rules are clear and easy to follow with a little attention; it helps support Rudolf's daily routine and way of living. Overall, this is a easy and very flexible volunteering experience. Rudy not only open his espace and friendship, at same time opened München.

My experience with Rudy in Munich was excellent. We spent two weeks together, and I adapted very quickly to life in his home thanks to the manual he prepared, where everything is clearly explained and expectations are very simple and easy to follow. Rudy is also very flexible with schedules, which gave me the chance to explore Munich and many beautiful places around the city during my stay. I'm super grateful for his generosity. The only small challenge for me was dealing a bit with the smells in the house, mainly from cigarettes/room. Other than that, my stay was truly 10/10.

I am happy to have shared my home with 300+ (minus two) guests who tolerate smoking. The appartment is well ventilated, unless guests close the windows! The guest-room door should always be closed. There is a high volume effcient electric air-cleaner in the main room and air-freshener in spray form always available. When nescessary, I smoke on the balcony.

The experiente had been very interesting and fun. The tasks are not hard, but specific. Rudy is flexible about hours, but still there is the need to respect some rules. He can be grumpy sometimes, because he wants things done in a certain way. He enjoy thoughtful conversations and have some strong opinions that not everyone will agree, but there is no need to fight over. You can agree in disagree. His daily routine might not fit in your plans, but as long as you discuss the hours beforehand there will be no stress.

I've had many housemates before and Rudy stands, metaphorically, with the best of them. He has a great sense of humour too. 😄 On the other hand, this role is not for everyone. Athough Rudy is relaxed and flexible about many aspects of the role, there are some tasks he likes done in particular ways. "Everything has a place and everything in it's place". I'm also relaxed and flexible on the small details so we get along well. The role requires someone with empathy and common sense. There's ample time to explore Munich and it's a great location to do so. It's been a positive experience. 👍👍
