The Experience

Hello! We’re a British-German couple restoring a 150-year-old stone house in the remote Soča Valley, Slovenia. With help from local builders (and our cocker spaniel!), we’ve made huge progress—roof, electrics, plumbing, plaster removal—and are now in the final phase. We’d love help this summer and look forward to sharing practical skills, nature, and a meaningful experience.

We had a great time volunteering at the home. Jeremy was a great host, he helped us with anything we needed and provided clear instructions for the tasks each day. Our favourite part was after the days work going for a swim down in the river or going for a run and hanging out with the beautiful dog Malou! We loved our time in Slovenia and would love to come back one day!!

What an epic spot! We loved volunteering here. \nExpectations were set from the start and communicated really well and respectfully. \n\nWe were provided with all the necessary amenities to live day to day with food provided as well. \n\nTasks were interesting and varied day by day with plenty of time for afternoon wanders and swims. Spending time with other volunteers and the gorgeous dog, Malou, was an added bonus.

I really enjoyed my time at the home, Jeremy was very welcoming and clearly communicated his expectations about the tasks as well as ensuring that everyone was okay with them. I was able to learn how to lime plaster, it was fun being able to learn a new skill. We had the afternoons to relax or explore, all took turns cooking dinner and after in the evenings we would sit and chat by the fire it was super wholesome. The house is isolated up in the Slovenia hills, which I loved as you're completely surrounded by nature, I wish I'd gone and explored more in my free time!!

I had an amazing time at the home with Jeremy and Malou. Jeremy's communication and expectations were clear and reasonable, with daily tasks spoken about in a group setting. He was always open to feedback about the project and new ideas. I was able to help with a variety of tasks during my stay including painting, plastering, gardening, sorting and collecting stones for the house, and much more. Overall I had a great time and wished I could stay longer, I would recommend this experience to anyone considering applying !

I had an incredible time at the hillside house. Jeremy and Anja are amazing hosts who communicate their expectations well and never ask for too much. They made me feel very welcomed and comfortable in their home with great home made meals and a great vibe as we sat to eat together every meal. It was also a great experience to meet other travelers from all around the world to share our experiences and create a unique relationship that I will remember forever. The nature surrounding the house is also unbelievable. Rivers, waterfalls, gorges, and mountains, it has it all. I highly recommend :)
