The Experience

We are a wood crafting community in a tiny beautiful local village in Chiang Mai, Thailand. About an hour's journey southwest of the city of Chiang Mai. We are a quiet area, away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Our community/guest residence brings together local crafts and crafts people and international guests and volunteers. The place is absolutely beautiful, with one of the most amazing gardens I've ever seen. The hosts are incredibly kind and caring, I felt like I was surrounded by so many moms taking care of me. 🥹 They took us to many local markets and even to a temple where we offered food to the monks, which was such a special experience. The work was very rewarding and varied, from teaching kids of different ages to gardening and cleaning. The hours weren't too demanding, so I had plenty of free time to explore. I did so many hikes around Chiang Mai on my days off! Thank you for your warmth and kindness 🫶

I am so deeply grateful to Pantila, May9, and Buddy for welcoming me with such pure love from day one! The volunteer house is just what you need, and has a kitchen. Time simply flew by, it never felt like work. My inner child awoke playing and teaching those bright 4-6 year olds. I loved helping organize, crafting materials, and painting murals to leave our mark in this lovely jungle spot. It's 40 minutes from Chiang Mai, but its transport is easy. Sharing this journey with everyone has filled my heart and recharged my soul and I leave with new friends for life! I will absolutely be return ❤️

This was truly a wonderful experience. The work is tiring but fulfilling (just 2-4 hours a day spending time with the students, sometimes a particular topic or lesson will be suggested, but some lesson planning beforehand is a big help!). I loved the out-of-the-way, local spots that Pantila took us to (ALWAYS say yes to a local snack suggested by Pantila :p ). I do think that some of the dorm rooms could use a thorough clean. Fortunately I was moved to a different room early in my stay and they were cleaned after that, so I trust that they're fine now :) so much love for the project!! <3

This was my first volunteering experience and I definitely recommend others to volunteer here☺️. The host/ladies are so welcoming, hospitable and treat you like family. Most of the work is done during the morning; brushing, general cleaning, painting etc and they take the time to take you out to the markets and show you around Sanpatong. I was lucky enough to be volunteering during Songkran, so we prepared the village for visitors, did a cooking class, woodcarving class, and taught the kids English. It all ended in a big water fight. We even had a Taiwanese film crew document our experience.

Thank you so much, Samira! You’ve been incredible—from teaching the children English in such a fun way to helping us organize and decorate our space so beautifully. We truly appreciate your hard work and kind heart. You are always welcome back in our village, and we hope to see you again soon!

My experience at the project was really nice. The hosts are amazing, super friendly and welcoming. I happened to be there when the kids were on vacation, so I didn't get to teach English as much as I expected. Instead we helped around the house with things like decorating and cleaning. The location is quite far from the city, which makes it perfect if you want to slow down, disconnect a bit and experience village life while learning more about the local culture. Overall it's a great place if you're looking to step away from the busy cities and enjoy a more peaceful authentic lifestyle.
