The Experience

Do you want to come to North Norway? We are living in rural area, in the nature with fresh air and we love it. We are surrounded by fields, river, fjord, lakes, trees, mountains and plateau. From middle of August to middle of April we have seen the aurora borealis, the northern light. In summer we have two months with midnight sun. We like the different seasons in the year. We can welcome volunteers nearly the whole year.

The highlights for me were the close contact with the sheep, beautiful and diverse nature, and the peace and quiet I found on walks. I felt warmly welcomed from the start. Svanhild's delicious meals were a great opportunity to try traditional Norwegian flavors. Tasks ranged from light to physically demanding and could be messy and wet, so bring dedicated work clothes! Sometimes we didn't get two full days off per week, making free-time planning harder, but compromises were possible. To sum up: the stay was truly great and satisfying, I've learned a lot about living on a farm and myself :)

My time at the farm truly was special for me. The area is quiet and beautiful. I stayed for two months and met a lot of amazing people during my stay who made this experience into what is was. The work changes depending the farm season. Some tasks are more physically demanding than others. One of my favorite things were the sheep. But working with animals is a big responsibility. You need to be flexible and responsible. Svanhild and BjΓΈrnar are incredibly people who welcomed me with open arms and made me feel at home instantly. Problems and concerns can always be addressed. Incredibly grateful.

While my stay at the farm I got to meet a lot of new people, everyone was really nice, including the hosts. The work contained a lot of different tasks (building fences, caring for sheep), I learned new skills. Though that the work hours sometimes were longer than stated, most was still fun. On my free days I could hike through beautiful nature surrounding the farm. The food was good, a lot of bread, but warm food in the evenings, it felt like having a meal with one big family. Because we were to many volunteers, I had to sleep in my own van, which was completely fine, but not as stated.

My experience on the farm with Svanhild and BjΓΈrnar was really nice. The place where they live is very beautiful, surrounded by sheep, nature and amazing landscapes. Having many other volunteers on the farm made the experience even more enjoyable and dynamic. I had the opportunity to meet many people from different countries and learn more about different cultures. The tasks were always different. They were sometimes tiring and physically demanding, but i really enjoyed working like this and doing something completely different from what i'm used to. I'm very grateful for the opportunity
