The Experience

As a retreat worker you would be involved in all aspects of keeping the retreat center running. This can include tasks such as cleaning rooms/cabins, laundry, handling recycling and garbage, watering plants, mowing the lawn, as well as other tasks such as cutting firewood, small building projects and land art. We usually work Mon-Fri for 20 hours per week but are flexible. We serve 3 meals a day and can accommodate different diets.

I'm grateful to Shaun for the opportunity to volunteer and experience life on his property. The work matched what was agreed, and I appreciated being part of the project. I would recommend future volunteers be aware that the experience can feel quite isolated, especially if there are no other volunteers, and having your own transportation is helpful. Although I decided to leave earlier than planned because it was no longer the right fit for me, I appreciate the experience and wish Shaun all the best with his project

I really enjoyed my time at the reserve centre! The family was welcoming, the food was consistently great, the workload was light and varied, and it's a lovely place to ground yourself. the reserve building is the perfect place for a private yoga practice. The only downside is to get into town which might get expensive if you don't have a license. That is more my fault than the fault of the host family though. i'm really grateful to have this experience as my first solo trip ever! I would recommend this place to friends and couples travelling together.

The location is very remote, so you have to be comfortable staying in the woods for a while and not having much to do. However, Shaun let us use the car to go in town when it was'nt needed. It is a good place to learn about yourself, since you do not have much things to do when there is no job that needs to be done. At one point you learn to embrace the beauty of nature, its tranquility and maybe some wildlife! The food was delicious, Shaun cooks very complete meals.

Michael and his family welcomed us with incredible warmth and treated us like part of their own family. They always made sure we felt comfortable and at home — my partner even got a beautiful birthday cake! The work was fair and varied, and we learned a lot of new skills. Shaun cooked delicious meals three times a day and even shared his recipes with us. Because of the remote location, they kindly let us use one of their cars. We truly had a wonderful time and felt very appreciated. We would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a great Workaway experience. Feel free to message us!
