I volunteered at the host Açaí in Santa Catalina and had a positive experience overall. Santa Catalina is such a beautiful place, quiet, very relaxing, and surrounded by nature. It's a small town with great surfing and an easygoing atmosphere. Diego is clearly passionate about his project and cares about maintaining good standards. The environment is laid-back, but there's an expectation of reliability and a strong work ethic, which keeps things running smoothly. I'm grateful for the time I spent there

Diego's a nice guy. The accomodations are a room in his house, which while it is private and has its own bathroom, its a little weird to be a young girl staying alone in a single older man's house. He's very respectful and never made me feel weird, but its something to know if that living situation makes you uncomfortable. As far as the actual work goes, I thought it would be exclusively in the smoothie shop. He had me cleaning his home kitchen. I felt like a personal maid. I was volunteering during low season so there wasn't much to do and I was a little bored. Also I didn't get any meals.

Thank you for your feedback. I’d just like to clarify that, because it was low season and the smoothie shop was closed, I only asked you to clean the kitchen you were using. It was never intended as personal housekeeping. Also, I didn’t expect you to leave after only two days, as you told me you had to return to your country due to a family health emergency. I wish you and your family all the best.

Making the Acaii is fun and you learn fast how to handle everything. Santa Catalina is a cute town, perfect for water activities, especially for surfing. But be aware that it's really a small town, so it's perfect if you search some quiet. The only thing what I didn't liked was that I worked way more than agreed. I'm a person who is bad in communicating my needs, I know the next volunteer said from the beginning how it goes and she's happy. I think both parts could have handled that better. I would still recommend that and hope that in future the working times are like agreed beforehand:)
