A great way to experience the local community! On top of farm work, you get a day to teach local kids, and Yaziel makes sure you get to experience other events in the community. Yaziel and her parents are super nice and the work is rewarding. However the WP listing isn't accurate. You pay in part for the cost of food which is listed as 3 meals everyday but you actually only get food for the 3 days/wk you work. For the amount of food we got on these days the cost seems high. If the listing was transparent in this and other regards it would improve this otherwise high potential experience.

An immersive and meaningful cultural experience. It felt special to contribute to a local family, and teaching the kiddos was a highlight. That said, a few details could be clearer. Meals are only provided on workdays, and while work is ~12 hrs/wk, the 8km uphill commute makes days longer. Transportation is limited, and there are aggressive dogs along the route. Spanish is essentially required despite the listing, and there's a $70 fee which felt high for the food provided. Overall, a good experience with great intentions, just go in with clear expectations.

Volunteering at the guest house was really an immersive experience. I've learned a lot about the local culture, agriculture and work with animals. The farms are a bit further from where you're staying, so you need to take a bus/cycle there, but the landscape is so beautiful. I'd recommend this experience more for couples, as when I was staying there there weren't many other people so it's easier to fill your free time when you're in two :)) Otherwise really good if you want to learn about the way locals live.

We are a couple from Germany and stayed for two weeks at the guest house. Yaz offers a local experience, which focusses more on a cultural exchange, than on the actual work. She is very interested to connect travelers with the local community and culture, which we enjoyed! When it comes to times for work, agreements and food plans the Latin American flexibility kicks in. All in all we had a good experience and thank Yaz and her family for this time!
