The Experience

We are a family of 4 (we have two girls 13 and 17). We also have 3 Golden Retrievers, 2 old Huntaways, 10 chickens and a cat and two ponies. We live in an area of outstanding natural beauty, on the border of Devon and Somerset. We are looking for someone or a couple to help out at our small holding in the country. We need help with housework, cleaning, minding the animals, including, hopefully, puppies in May/June,we also have a 7mth old kitten.

This was our second volunteering experience with Marye and Jamie, and it was even better than the first. We truly love this peaceful place, where we learned so much, not only English, but also new skills and valuable experiences. They are incredibly kind, welcoming, and always happy to help. We really enjoyed spending time with them. They are patient and supportive, especially when helping us improve our English. We are so grateful for everything they have done. They made us feel like family. We highly recommend this volunteering experience and would happily come back. thanks ! ☺️❤️

We couldn't have asked for a better Wordlpackers experience. From the moment we arrived, Marie and Jamie welcomed us like a family. Very quickly, a relationship built on trust, kindness, and friendship was created, making it very hard to say goodbye. The caravan is rustic but comfortable, and it quickly became our little home. The work was varied, interesting, and rewarding. We learned many practical and manual skills that we had never had a chance to discover before, and we truly enjoyed every project. But what made this experience unforgettable was the people. Marie and Jamie are amazing

Marie and her daughters were warm and welcoming, and I appreciated their kindness. However, the role differed significantly from what was described, with most of my time spent cleaning the house which was in a poor condition rather than animal care. The standard of cleanliness in my view was unsuitable for volunteers, and needs professional work. After discussing leaving early, the atmosphere became uncomfortable, so I chose to leave sooner than planned. The caravan was functional and a food allowance was provided, but overall I don't feel this was a fair exchange and would not recommend.

Marie replied

This review was written to excuse her unreliability and emotional immaturity. Leaving after only 5 days working, saying she was homesick, and therefore leaving us in the lurch. Walking the dogs for 90mins a day is clearly animal care!

I loved my time in the home! Marie and Jamie are such nice people and I felt myself appreciated. The tasks were fun and there was a lot of variability so it never got boring!
