The Experience

Welcome to our home in Cañar! 🙌 I am Miguel, and together with my family we belong to the Cañari culture. We live among mountains, surrounded by rice, corn, and vegetables such as cauliflower or chili peppers. We also take care of goats, buffaloes, cows, sheep, and birds. We invite you to share with us the simple and authentic life of the Andean countryside.

I had an amazing time staying and working with the farm family. They were so welcoming and provided me with everything I needed for my stay. Miguel was a fantastic host and introduced me to the local community, culture and showed me some stunning local sights. It was great to get to know him and practice my Spanish. I wish I could've stayed longer but I hope to return at some point!

Miguel and his family welcomed me with open arms and quickly integrated me into their daily life. Frankly, it was the best volunteering experience I’ve had, so don’t hesitate to spend a short stay there! The work can be a bit demanding at times, but being outdoors all day in breathtaking landscapes will make you forget everything! Miguel is an excellent pedagogue, who will teach you thousands of things about the region, the locals, the Spanish language and Quechua, the culture, agriculture, fauna and flora,... It was incredible, thank you!!

It was a magical and unforgettable experience. Being part of this beautiful community was a meaningful learning about the culture and its traditions. The place is surrounded by spectacular landscapes to enjoy a healthy and very welcoming environment. I also enjoyed its rich typical foods, such as roasted cuy with potatoes, a delicacy of the gods. But the most valuable thing was the hospitality of Miguel's family, such as mom Elena and Tayta Simón, who with their antics always brought me many smiles. Truly grateful, 100% recommended 👨🏽‍🌾

I had a wonderful experience working on the house in Cañar. The views of the mountains, nature, and the animals are a place full of beauty. I could participate in the whole process of raising animals to sell for meat; it was very educational. The family took great care of me when I got sick, and they always make sure you eat plenty, haha. I could experience the community celebrations and learn a little bit of Kichwa. The town is very quiet and the people are kind Thanks Miguel for everything that your project continues to grow :)

Time with Miguel and his family was very enriching. Beyond the countryside activities, this volunteering allowed me to know myself better, strengthen my patience, my resilience, and value even more the simple life. I am very grateful to the whole family for opening the doors of their home to me. There were some communication problems, but nothing that cannot be improved with time. The food was very good and the room very comfortable. Many blessings for your future projects 🙏🏼
