The Experience

We are located in the ancestral land of the Itzá Maya, surrounded by the Ceiba tree, the Bahlam or jaguar, and the rainforest. Our goal is to live in harmony with nature while contributing to its conservation and protection. We are building an environmental learning center for children, young people, and adults. Here, we want to share skills, literacy, languages, mathematics, astronomy, Maya ancestral knowledge, medicinal plants and moree!🍃

The stay is such an adventure! Everyone is so nice and during the week they often bring you lunch. It helped us with our spanish and it was possible to visit Tikal during our time, which was strongly supported by Pulga. If you know what you signed up for it will be a great time, but you have to be comfortable being outdoors 😆

Our time at the reserve was incredible! Pulga, gueche and the whole family were so inviting and loving and put us to work! The farm is beautiful and our tasks included looking after the chickens and turkeys, the horse, the dogs, and the cat, we took care of the whole farm, collected wood, built gates, and helped finish his school! We learnt so much about conservation of historical sites and about Mayan life and culture, and we only spoke Spanish so that helped us a lot! Thank you guys so much, we will be back in the future to help build gueche's house! Lots of love to your family Pulga ❤️

The place and the people are very kind, and the school project needs the collaboration of many, so I hope more volunteers can participate so that Maya culture and that sacred space can be a real part of the children's growth. Thanks, Pulga and Andrea.
