Over 20 years ago, I began rescuing stray and abandoned dogs. What started as a personal mission has grown into a full-scale project. Today, we run a registered NGO and care for around 400 dogs and 10 cats at our shelter in beautiful Marateca, near Setúbal, Portugal. All of our animals are available for adoption, and we work closely with a German rescue organization to help find them loving homes.

This the the shelter has a lot of dogs , it's work but you get to meet and spend time with many beautiful dogs .it is very well run and organized . It's easy to see how much Teresa loves and cares for these dogs . I enjoyed my stay and thankfully I could leave knowing these dogs are happy , healthy and in good hands all around .

Teresa and the crew were very friendly and grateful for the help. The work was exactly as expected, and the dogs were incredibly happy to receive attention and affection, which made the work feel very meaningful. If you love dogs, don't hesitate to apply! You'll meet so many friendly dogs, each with their own unique looks and personalities. It's a really rewarding experience and I'm very happy I chose to volunteer here for my first time volunteering. The only thing that's important to know is that there is not much to do in the neighbourhood so plan some days in Lisbon after to see Portugal

I had a very good experience with this host. Teresa is a nice person. It is wonderful to see how she runs the the shelter with such passion. The work could be tough but if you love dogs it's probably not a problem. All dogs are super sweet and excited to see you. I do recommend wearing earplugs. Even in the night it is very noisy from the dogs barking. For me it was difficult to sleep.

This was a really great experience ! If you love dogs and enjoy being surrounded by nature, this is the place to be. Although the days can be long, it is nice as you get to meet the staff, other volunteers and the dogs who are all lovely. I recommend this host to anyone who loves dogs and don't mind getting their hands dirty and physical work for them :)

I had a great time, the work there was rewarding and I would go back in a heartbeat. It was easy for me to get my hands dirty and play in the mud with the dogs, if you enjoy that as well as helping furry friends live a happy healthy life than this is the place to go
