A Little Lifestyle Block

We are keen to host people who like the outdoors hiking surfing other stuff. Also who are happy to work on various projects or gardening and farm work about the place. We are also into playing music, and have alot of stringed instruments.

We don't have any staff, we are just a small family with 1 teenager Mom Dan and sometimes Grandma or my son Ara who occasionally joins us. We also have our Dog Neska who is very nice. We also have about 15 hens a few chick a rooster and a bunch of sheep.

Normally people who stay basically live with us, but with their own accommodation in one of the two caravans. The larger caravan has a self contained shower and heat pump and the the smaller caravan has a large deck outdoor hot and cold water shower with small hot water tank. Both caravans use a a composting toilet.

We also have a 26 foot sailboat in the Dunedin harbour which weather permitting we sometimes can take out.

We have a rostered cooking night and if you don't cook you can help with the dishes.

We had a very good experience with Dan. He was very kind, friendly, and always clearly explained each task. He offered to help us with whatever we needed, and it was a lot of fun to work with him. Also, he cooks very well. Without a doubt, he is a very good host and a great person. Thank you good man

I stayed with Dan, Trishna and Made for 2 weeks with all the sheep and dog (Neshka)!
There were plenty of jobs to do including baking bread, gardening, cleaning and cutting up wood and more.
I stayed in a caravan which was spacious and private! The shower is small with limited hot water and there is an outdoor loo.
The family are very chatty and will have open discussions and debates! This can get loud and be argumentative so join in if you want!

I played board games and listen to music from NZ. The family had friends come round too who were great fun (Norm and Mack)!
Thankyou!

I spent 10 days in the company of Dan and his family. They immediately put me at ease, and I quickly felt at home. The tasks proposed by Dan are never repetitive and can change from day to day depending on the needs (weeding, taking care of the gardens, digging trenches, feeding the animals…). Dan takes the time to explain and repeat if you don't understand, which is especially appreciated on days when we are asked to work autonomously.
Thanks again for this experience, looking forward to seeing you again! Mathis

My girlfriend's and my plans changed, so we didn't stay very long, but Dan and his family welcomed us extremely well. We worked for just one day sorting sheep's wool and the work was fine.

I was able to learn a lot and work on many different types of things. I especially liked working with the animals and finishing the deck around the house. I was invited on many excursions with the family and even though I had the farm experience with a majority of the tasks, I was given a lot of patience by Dan and Trishna. On a more personal level, there were times where I didn't feel very welcome but I recognize that is subjective and many others will not have an issue. I overall appreciated my time at the farm in Dunedin and wish them the best.
