Aras is a friendly place and when you volunteer with us you really become part of the family. We had one lady for example who came here for a month and stayed over 3 months. We all cried when she left - for us it was like losing a daughter.
Volunteers are treated as part of the family. We take them around to show them the sights. We tell them about the history of Donegal, they get to meet the cat, the talking parrot, the little Chihuahua.. its like a home from home. Yes we work, but even that is fun. As an example, our vacuum's brand is a Henry, so we don't vacuum, we take Henry for a walk. Making work fun.
Leon and Gill are the most lovely people and made this experience absolutely uniqe and special. They were so kind and welcoming that I felt at home immediately, I will never forget them and am so grateful for every day I spent at Aras. As there is not too much to do in the area except of course for walking through the stunning nature, they were kind enough to show me around the area, always telling me interesting stories about the places and I really enjoyed our conversations. The tasks were easy and we worked together as a team which made me feel like part of the family.
