Volunteering at the host for me is always very good; I already consider Brynawel as a home. The autonomy we have to be able to manage the activities together with the other volunteers is very rewarding for me, and this time I came with my fiancé, which was wonderful because we work together. Since this visit was in the summer, Bill and Louise were busier with other activities and we interacted less with them (I missed them), but on the other hand the weather was great and we could enjoy the beach and the free festivals that the city offers.

BrynAwel's a guesthouse, 2 mins walk from the host beach. Toad Hall's a hostel in Machynlleth, 1hr away by bus. Volunteers work in the host, cleaning the rooms after 11am checkout (no reception involved, all self-check ins). Bill the owner, mostly does Toad Hall but will sometimes ask a volunteer to come over if he's not available (not always with much notice, but will cover travel expense). Food is weekly cash. Come with a very open and relaxed mind, with no expectations and go with the flow. The work is light and simple, with enough hands. the host is a great town.

I had a really brilliant time in the host. Working at Brynawel taught me lots of new things; I really pushed myself and discovered a side to myself that I'd never expected. Will and Lou are two really kind, funny, and friendly people who welcome everyone with open arms. They create an environment where you feel safe and welcome. The work was also really fun, especially as you're usually with other volunteers and get to meet new people. The town is in a really lovely location and, alongside work, you also have plenty of time to yourself. It really was an unforgettable time! <3
