Cinema Hostel Jerusalem

We are a new hostel! located right in the middle of JLM (8 min from the market, 12 min from the old city and in the heart of all the cool places to go out in the holy city!). The staff, including the owners, reception, cleaners and volunteers are young folks that had been backpackers themselves, and the energy here is amazing. The hostel was once a real cinema, born in 1938. Now, we screen movies every night, our bar serves drinks from famous movies, and each room has a theme of a different movie. The Hostel is also part of the Orion space. Orion is a culture valuing community in the heart of Jerusalem that connects citizens with international visitors, and local creators with their audience. One of the ways the volunteers can contribute is by providing substance to the activities that we have in the space. We are looking for help in housekeeping, cleaning, marketing, welcoming guests, and spreading good vibes all around (: So... What's your scene?!

Most of our workers are students, part of the art scene in the city! We know all the best places to go out and all the raves and the parties. Come and get the best Israeli experience with the coolest people (: We'd love to host for at least 3 weeks, but we do give preference to those willing to be with us for a longer period of time.

I applied for this volunteer experience like 4 months in advance so I could plan accordingly. Traveling from Argentina to Israel is very expensive and I've worked very hard for many years to make this happen.
I traveled to Europe and 4 DAYS before my arrival date to Israel, James the manager writes me a WhatsApp message apologizing and telling me that the job I applied for (Marketing, Social media and Events) was not "available" because he didn't have enough volunteers.
Until now I don't know what this really meant because he didn't give any details, he just said "Sorry". No commitment.

I really enjoyed my experience at Cinema Hostel and would recommend volunteering there to anyone willing to visit Jerusalem. The hostel is in a great location, close to many touristic sites, shops, markets...
During my stay we had 6-hour shifts 4 days a week, which is pretty good if you want to explore surrounding cities, for example. The schedule was pretty flexible, and they always tried to accommodate your preferences in terms of shifts and days off.

Cinema hostel is located in the area with easy and fast access to the greatest monuments. Work and responsibilities in the hostel give a real possibility to travel around Israel.
The hostel is comfortable to hang out in and the duties as simple and clear. Hours of work can be agreed which is a big advantage. However the hostel's owner don't really communicate with volunteers and some ideas which could improve the place, are just ignored. The hostel has a huge potential, unfortunately, the priorities are different.
Generally I enjoyed staying and working there, I recommend the place.
