Cinema Hostel Jerusalem

We are located right in the middle of JLM (in the heart of all the cool places to go out in the holy city!). The staff, including the owners, reception, cleaners and volunteers are young folks that had been backpackers themselves, and the energy here is amazing.

The hostel was once a real cinema, born in 1938. Now, we still keep this going by screening movies for our guests and volunteers. Our bar serves amazing cocktails and gives volunteers the chance to learn from them.

We are looking for help in housekeeping, cleaning, marketing, welcoming guests, and spreading good vibes all around (:

So... What's your scene?!

Our workers are well-traveled, open-minded and cordially people :) We offer a diverse environment, a mix out of locals and foreigners with the wish to always improve ourselves. We consider ourselves as a family and love to spend time together. We see the volunteers as part of our family and want them to as happy and valued as they can be.

I spent 3 weeks at Cinema Hostel. I was totally unaware that my commencement date was the day before the start of an important Jewish holiday Yom Kippur. So this was an added bonus for me to witness and experience this festival and what it meant for the locals and the many Jewish travelers all over the world.

The work is straightforward and the hours are not long so I had lots of time to explore Jerusalem and many parts of Israel.

The accommodation is typical of any backpacker's place. volunteers are well taken care of. The only down side I would say is it could get noisy in the dorm.

The team was very welcoming and kind. There's a huge sense of appreciation for diversity, so it is possible to really connect with people from all over the world, valuing the uniqueness everyone would bring to the place. Overall, tasks are easy and the schedule isn't long, so there's plenty of time to go explore. Unfortunately, war interrupted an incredible experience, in such magical an interesting places, as both, Israel and Palestine are full of breathtaking landscapes, history and AWESOME people to meet. Thanks a lot to everyone, I really hope there's peace, fun and love again. 🙏🇮🇱❤🇯🇴

The volunteering manager Gur was basically invisible the entire time I was there. His help or guidance was basically non-existent as I had to text him 3 or 4 times just to get a response. It was one of the other volunteers that really “ran” things even though it wasn’t his job. I basically couldn’t count in the leadership for anything, the owner maybe gave me a few minutes of his time but then got distracted by something else. I also got bitten by bed bugs and disturbed that the management knew people were getting bit but not shutting the place down to exterminate.

I can't find words to express how great was my time at Jerusalem and at Cinema Hostel... I got myself a new family and will miss those guys!! I know very few things for sure, but one of those things is that I will definitely come back to Jerusalem and to Cinema Hostel in the future. The volunteering program is fair and simple, the tasks are very light!! Thank you so much for welcoming me guys. I blindly recommend this experience to anyone coming to Israel.

Excellent location and accommodations. There’s always something to do in the hostel, and there’s plenty to explore nearby. Hours are reasonable and allow time to travel, plus it’s a very social environment where you can quickly make new friends.
