The location and surroundings are really nice, but there were a few unexpected details. "Family dinners" occurred twice a week, and food supplies were limited and strictly vegetarian. Every weekend required repacking and moving to the owner's house. Being the only volunteer, I handled most of the "big" shifts alone (beds, bathrooms, vacuuming, sometimes also laundry). Communication could also be improved.
Overall, it wasn't a bad experience, but clearer expectations beforehand would have made a big difference.

The work is demanding and based on tasks complete rather than time. More guests = more work. Dinner is included for around half of the nights and food for the volunteers to cook is limited. So be aware, you’ll need to spend money on food. This means the exchange can often feel unfair for the volunteers. The owners have CCTV where they watch and critique volunteers ,sadly, this creates a feeling of distrust and intrusion. The lake is beautiful and you will meet lots of lovely guests. Overall, the experience is nice, but good to be aware of these things before arriving.

I had a great time at Sun Moon Lake! The hostel is beautiful, the beds are super comfy, and Nanou and Lena are very welcoming. The work is straightforward hostel tasks, and you get plenty of free time in the afternoons and evenings. The only small thing I'd mention is that family dinner isn't always provided, and it wasn't totally clear beforehand. Also, having a bit more variety in the food options for volunteers (beyond vegetables and carbs) would make the experience even better. Overall, a lovely place to volunteer and visit.

My time at the hostel was amazing! Nanou and Lena are incredible persons, very cool, nice people and really friendly. I was very lucky to meet people like them in my journey The work is very easy and Nanou does everything to make your life easy and nice The vibe of the hostel is incredible. Very peaceful and chill, the food is good, the lake is beautiful and you have lots to do near the hostel Thank you for accepting me at the hostel. I feel privileged to have made friends like Lena and Nanou on my journey I hope Lena, Nanou and Lilu can visit me in Brazil one day Be happy and enjoy your life

I had an awesome time at the hostel Nomad Hostel ! I loved working with the team and learned a lot about hostel management. I also a lot of lovely guests and got to improve my english chatting with them. Nanou and Lena are very welcoming and accommodating. I felt like I was part of the family. I hope i can come back as a volunteer.
