Eco Hotel MayAchik'

We are a locally run place and volunteers are helping us with special tasks but are not replacing local workers. This is very important for us and puts us in contrast to most places in the area that are run mostly with volunteers.

We are a team of Maya Tzutujil people who like to work and learn from each other and from volunteers. We expect volunteers to actively communicate with us and share our vision.

Nuestra Visión
We maintain as the main focus the care of the environment. We host visitors and provide food service. We organize different activities to get to know the town and nature. We make sure people enjoy their visit and, in doing so, also facilitate transportation organization and travel planning. We dedicate ourselves to training and educating for the improvement of the environment and of oneself. We have eco-friendly rooms surrounded by an organic garden and a restaurant to satisfy the needs of the customer, not only in one place but through partnerships and branches in other countries. We address national and international people interested in living in harmony with nature, getting to know the culture and helping us in our vision of caring for the environment and improving people’s lives. We are located in a peaceful, safe place with friendly people.

Our Mission
We are dedicated to promoting ecological living for people motivated to live in harmony with nature, in their desire to relax, eat healthily, share, learn and help the community in an ecological and communal setting, preserving the environment, fostering equality, self-esteem, honesty, happiness and solidarity.

The hotel is a beautiful place, I enjoyed learning new things and how the whole MayAchik team guides me. Without a doubt I plan to return to visit them again someday, a hug to everyone, especially to management and the kitchen. ❤️

Being with children makes you see the world with different eyes; seeing how they also become part of your life is something that moved me a lot. In my case I had to take care specifically of two very lovely girls, a seven-year-old girl whom I consider a friend; she is a girl with many dreams and talents to develop, and a one-and-a-half-year-old baby who is truly a whirlwind, but while taking care of her I also realized all the activities that she needs; I grew fond of her. The only thing I would change is to focus the efforts on caring for children of the same age, since some ages need more attention.

It was a wonderful experience where I could connect a lot with the locals and their culture. Everyone at the hotel was super friendly and welcoming (and breakfast was great, haha). I learned a lot about Guatemalan and Maya culture, and it was an experience I would recommend 100%!

I mainly worked at reception, covering a variety of daily operational tasks. From the very beginning, I was given a lot of responsibility. If you're interested in understanding how a hotel functions behind the scenes, this is a fantastic place to learn. What I appreciated most was the strong sense of inclusion within the team — from shared breakfasts to team activities, I truly felt part of the community. I also had the opportunity to join free hikes, which made the experience even more enriching. The outdoor areas of the hotel are absolutely beautiful, and the dormitory is very comfortable.

It’s important for us to create a space where everyone can grow, contribute, and feel trusted with responsibility.
It’s also wonderful to know that you enjoyed the team activities, shared moments, and the hikes. You will always be part of the Mayachik community🌿

I lived here for 1 month to help in the garden. They gave me accommodation, breakfast and lunch. With 2 free days each week, and 5h30min of work. I felt like I was part of the Mayachick Family. Thanks to everyone🫶🏻.
