I loved Playa Gigante and the opportunity it gives you to truly connect with locals and travelers. I had a lot of fun surfing and I can recommend Playa Amarillo and its community to anyone who wants to learn how to surf.

The hotel staff always respects working hours and tasks. Keep in mind the vibe is always chill at the hotel, even to the point where you can stay for hours without doing anything, even if you find ways to help.

Sadly, in Gigante as a woman, I didn't feel 100% comfortable. NEVER did I feel physically in danger, but some comments and looks from locals were disrespectful.

Thank you for your honest feedback, Maria. We’re sorry to hear that some interactions in the village made you feel uncomfortable. The safety and well-being of our volunteers and guests are very important to us. Hotel InGigante has 24-hour security, and our team is always available to provide support if an uncomfortable situation arises. We’ll also use your feedback to offer clearer local guidance to future volunteers. Thank you for being part of InGigante.

I really liked El Gigante. It's a cute fisher village that's not too popular among tourists yet. You have one surf break in walking distance and it's a very social place where you'll know the whole town by day 2. As for the hotel, I didn't feel like I could really get warm with the people there. The onboarding is short and the organization a bit messy and intransparent. This resulted in me feeling more like a birder than a help at times. However, it's a very laid-back atmosphere, so there is not much pressure either and you can flexibly plan your shift. I enjoyed working marketing tasks.

The experience at the the hotel was pleasant and peaceful, unfortunately I ended up in the off-season so not many guests passed by and due to works near the city electricity was missing for half of the days (the host nevertheless provided for most of the time electricity through a private generator). The hotel team welcomed me in the best possible way and the typical breakfast provided was greatly appreciated, as well as the tables made available for the volunteers, if I had to go back I would certainly return in another period with more guests and socialization inside the hotel.

Thank you for sharing your experience, Marco. We’re glad you felt welcomed and enjoyed the hotel and breakfast. The electricity interruptions were caused by temporary road construction in the area, creating unusual power instability beyond our control. This issue has since been resolved. June is part of our quieter season, and Playa Gigante is a small fishing village where the laid-back atmosphere is part of the experience. Thank you for your time with us, and we wish you all the best!
